    You guys aren't gonna believe this but I just had painter passing out cards in the neighborhood and I had him take a look at it. Basically he said that the guy should have done a skimcoat, let it dry, prime it and then paint it. I may be hiring him and deducting it from this guy's fee. My painter (the good one) is also on his way. Either way whatever they charge comes right out of this guys fee. I'll know what I am doin in a half hour or so....

    That's the repair huh?

    I would stick with your last plan. I don't think you need to skim the whole wall, but those patches ain't right. Get the real guy and eff the first one.

    Wow, I just looked at those pics! That's absolutely horrible!

    He is obviously to lazy to sand and prime. It takes some work, but it needs to be sanded, mudded, sanded until desired results are achieved with a unifrom finish. Then it needs a good coat of primer and then painted. You can't cover up that mess with paint.

    New guy is gonna skim and paint the wall. $175 and guess where that's coming from? I told the evil painter to wrap it up. Neaten the edges and finish the rest and that I was getting someone who had a clue to concentrate on that wall. What a mess! It's going to be interesting to see how he handles getting $325 compared to $500.00 but I already gave him the heads up. He shouldn't even get the $325. But now because everyone is lollygagging (although my electrician rocks!) I have 2 painters, an electrician, and a seamstress all in the same room working. When the skimcoat guy gets here it will be 2 more.

    Bad, crappy painter complained about how crowded it was and I told him . "You were the one who needed to leave early Saturday to go to a party so deal with it".

    Darla, I'm sure your "good" guy will be able to fix it up. The problem is the texture doesn't match the surrounding surface, which could have been easily addressed at the start. I've done this many times without resurfacing the entire wall, altho to be safe doing the whole wall should look good. More paint will not help as it is. The first guy should not call himself a painter.

    Update:

    So I break the news to the crappy painter and he is not happy but he says he will finish the rest. An hour later he comes to me and says he's done and don't worry about the $250 just pay him $175. Riiiigghht. So I go look at his work and SHOCK - there is paint everywhere. Color on the ceiling , baseboards - a big sloppy mess. I ask him how can he possibly say he's done and he leaves without me paying him a dime. Good riddance! I wish I never gave him $250 already. He was also pi$$ed at me which is unbelievable.

    On your furniture comment.............keep an eye out for things at World Market (some areas they're Cost Plus World Market)......they have some great stuff if you catch them at the right time on a clearout or something like that.

    And one wood to look for that you might like if you like darker stained woods is Shi-Sham (unstained it's a very zebra-ish type of coloration). That stuff is SOLID and heavy as hell........definitely investment pieces that aren't going to be falling apart if you move them ala Ikea stuff..........
