That's why. Just like the Corevette, the GT-R is a poor-mans rich car. I don't care what's under the hood, if you're spending that kind of cash, and I mean cash, no financing with a cost like that you best pick something that's got a first class logo on the hood, and Nissan doesn't have it.

Ron, judging by your advocacy to the Mini, you have never driven a true performance car. If you had, you would know that a badge doesn't mean **** when you're in a market for one, performance does. And the GT-R delivers, for a lot less than the competitors. If it had a Porsche badge on it, it would sell for 200k+ instead of 70k. If you're that kind of poser, then the Porsche Cayman is most likely your car.

BTW, I have a 15 year old Nissan that if I decided to sell, would fetch $50k at least.

    .

I KNEW someone was going there. I look at Cayman's and laugh and say "congrats, you paid 50000 for a car my 30000 mustang can eat for lunch.

for 45000, you can buy a base Vette that would crush that Cayman in every category.....well..except the category of paying silly money for a name badge

its a shame because i love the look of that Cayman

point being, when i buy a performance car, I buy performance that puts a smile on my face. I do this by buying as much performance that my $ will get me (and the type of performance I like). if someone isnt impressed with the badge, i'm not terribly concerned about it

that GTR makes the list of performance bargains (i.e., what you get for the money). I;d probably still go Z06 or base vette for bang for buck in terms of what i want, but that GTR is a handling track monster, no denying it. the Z06 will dog it to 120 though by 2 seconds :D

if I had the 70+ g's to spend, I;d test drive both, lets put it that way

You will definitely love that and won't feel to upgrade another decade or two. I had R32GTR JDM version Right hand drive 12 years ago and still have lotz of memories.

you know the GTR and Vette Z06 will punk any Aston Martin on the road right?
While I'm sure it can, or has, performance is not the only reason I personally look at when buying a car. Style, ride, comfort, refinement all go into the decision before performance when I look into buying a car, but that's just me. Performance fails to impress me. Maybe it can beat several more expensive cars on the road but it's a Nissan and $70k for one, even if it is a beast under the hood, I could never do it.

Never have driven a true performance car and most likely never will (other then test drives). The MINI is no performance car, that's for certain, but it was a fun car and it put a smile on my face every time I got behind the wheel. But yes, I'd buy a Cayman over a Nissan, even if the Nissan is faster, because I am that kind of poser.

I test drove a Z about 6 months ago, it was fast, faster then anything I'd test driven in the $30k price range but nothing else about that car impressed me. Maybe the GT-R is different, maybe it's worth that additional $40k.

from your preferences, I can feel your position a little better. but you have to know, and respect to a degree, that 70000 gets you ALOT of performance........which some people like.

I am a big believer in buying the car you want, and putting your money into what will get you the most of what you want. Anyone buying a Z06 or GTR (and others) Literally only care about performance (or they're not the sharpest tools in the shed..LOL)

Agree 100%. We all buy cars for different reasons, that's why so many different styles exist, and yes $70k gets you a lot of performance. I still think, for just the performance aspect, $30k for the basic Z is a decent deal.

I'm just trying to figure out when, where, why and how anyone would think Nissan isn't a well built automoblile. Ya'll probably wouldn't say anything about it if it had the Infiniti badge on it. The GTR/Skylines have a huge following throughout the world and are known as some of the baddest cars around....especially for the duckets. It's just the first time they will be sold in the U.S.A..

I've owned 12 Z-cars over the years and the last one had over 300k miles on the drivetrain, that had never been opened up. Just Mobil 1 and belts, hoses, plugs, wires, and filters.

Bah, get a used C5 for 15k, bolt ons for 2k, heads and cam for 5k, sway bars, shocks, and tires for $3k, upgraded clutch or converter for another 2k, and you'll have a reliable 500+ horsepower 3200lbs beast for under 30k.

Besides....I don't doubt one bit that the Bimmer is the better drive. Numbers don't tell you much of anything about a car, just like they don't tell you anything about how a pair of speakers will sound.

I've read a number of reviews that rave about the GT-R's numbers, but many of them say that the car is like a video game. The computer does all the work and the driver is just along for the ride.

FAST but I will be changing to Big Stuff next winter. The FAST has a flaw, to my way of thinking, in that it doesn't manage fuel metering on deceleration very well. With the semi open side pipes you get a lot of rapping and popping.
