Good man Ben. I think it is like most artists - we like a little or a lot of their creations, but seldom all. There are exceptions for sure.

I am so glad I listened to her for a while before I watched her video. She reminds me of my Ex wife. Pretty, but the look on her face screams slap me I am a self centered spoiled ****
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

OK. I checked out every female artist here that I didn't know before. I come out of this with Patricia Barber and Rebecca Pidgeon. Very nice. I'll look into these two further.

Modern: Lila Downs (Mexican- American), Kate Rusby(English? ), Dulces Pontes( Portuguese ). Downs and Pontes both have voices that are phenomenal. Rusby makes up with folksy charm what she may lack in physical talent. Downs did the vocals in the movie Frida with Salma Hayek.

    Hall of Fame: Billie Holiday.

    Ensemble: Mediaeval Baebes. They're Baebalicious!

I only had one Diana Krall (The look of Love)SACD for years. I could never find anymore in local stores. SACD is hard to come by even back when it came out. I have not searched online for anything but now I want to get back into it.
I was in Best Buy buying my damn computer keyboard and decided to check out some cd's while I was there. I came across Diana Krall "The Girl In The Other Room" and picked it up. Really well recorded cd. If the SACD is even better which it should be at least as good, I want it. I wouldn't mind having all her cd's or SACD's. It's been awhile since I picked up something other then Metal or Rock or Dave Mathews so I'm all over it. Not to mention Diana Krall came back into my life due to my new job. We are a 2 channel store that does everything else. I love that.
I met this guy on Friday who wanted to listen to some 2 channel to replace is can you believe it Polk SDA 1's that he has had since they where brand new. He listened to Paradigm Studio 60's, Revel F32's , Def Tech BP2006's , Magnapans 1.6 and 3.3 and another panel I'm not all schooled on there model numbers yet and he really liked the open space the Magnapans but in front of you. On a side note when Magnapans are properly setup , they are very impressive. I would never own them as they are the most ugly looking speakers on the planet running right there with the Vandersteins we carry. Thiel isn't all that great to look at but all 3 companies do music very very well. Well anyway we have Diana Krall Live in Paris cd and he wanted to listen to it as he saw her a few years ago and loved it. He talked about her a lot and got me all juiced up to listen to her. I tried to find Live in Paris but Best Buy didn't have it. I plan on searching for all her SACD's online.
I also picked up the latest Norah Jones "not to late" cd. I'm no the fence with this one. So far not as good as her last 2. I only listened to it once and skipped around to find a track that stood out. Nothing did so far. Her lyric's also seem a bit corny or something. Again I'm judging it a bit quickly but this is my first impression.

Something I will also walk away from this thread with is XRCD. I thought they faded away years ago. I didn't even know they still re recorded cd's or made anything new. I got a sample years and years ago at a show and there was a Artist Bob Casta Progressive Jazz dude on there and I could not find anything on him on XRCD anywhere. it was called "Live in the streets" I think. Just one song on a sample disc I got. I'm gonna dig around again for XRCD. If you never heard one, it's kinda like a Chesky/SACD/ Telac / type quality recording.I met the engineer who started XRCD from JVC at that show. HE explained how they got the original studio recordings and remastered them to XRCD for the best possible replay. It was a really juicy demo 2.

This is a cool thread. I'm gonna also check out some of the chicks that you guys are listening to.
    Thanks indirectly

Dan, I was in a Circuit City looking at TVs about a year ago when I saw a demo running Diane Krall, Live in Paris DVD over a 50 inch plasma and a cheesey but properly set up HTIB. This was the first I ever heard of Diana Krall. I thought "a very classy performance, good production, great audio cut and the tunes are quite melodic" Not to mention she wasn't hard to look at.
Within a couple months I bought a 50 inch plasma and my new audio system. I bought the DVD Diana Krall - Live in Paris. The day after I watched it I went to Amazon and bought everything she did including redman copies of her SACDs.
I can give you a breif on the SACDs. I've only breifly listened to the others and they are all engineered well.

When I look in your Eyes - This is wonderful music. It is the only multi-channel SACD in that you are sitting in the middle of the band. I can't get used to that but I have to amdit the audio quality is outstanding and the tunes are among her very best. This SACD has become one of my test dics.

Look of Love - This is one of the finest recordings I've heard. My experience in SACD is limited but this 2-channel SACD I had to actually go to my surrounds to determine that is NOT being played from them. The songs themselves are hugely musical and this is a sit back in your chair and listen to with your eyes closed SCAD

Love Scenes - Also a new reference CD for me but for other reasons. She recorded with some string bassist who has been playing for 50 years and there is so much air in this recording that I used it to help me set crosss-overs. LOL. Anyway, this is some of her most mellow stuff. The engineering in this 2-channel is excellent.

Girl in the Other Room - If you ask me, this is Kralls mistake and in more ways than one. First of all, it ain't Krall at all. It's a bunch of Elvis Costello being sung by Krall. For those of you who do not know, Diana Krall and Elvis Costello are married. (puke, gagg, hurl. can't beleive it) Anyway, there is nothing about this recrding, other than the engineering is as good as the rest, that is Krall to me. It just isn't a real good CD.

BTW, I bought every one of these CD/SACDs on Amazon used and I bought them all in the same setting except her Live in Paris DVD which is wonderful and a must have.

Come back here and let us know how this works out for you.

I'm going to try this Rebecca Pidgeon. I was hugely pleased to find some of her music on SACD as well. Order several of the works recommended here this morning. I hope I've discovered some new favoritessss Thanks for the input everybody! IN FACT, if these fly for me, I plan to come back to this thread and try a couple more.

+1 on Rebecca Pidgeon. I have the SACD "The Worlds Greatest Audiophile Voical Recordings" Her rendition of Spanish Harlem is fabulous. That song alone is worth it. Another one to check out on this disc is Sara K.
If you ever get a chance to hear Rebecca's version of "Auld Lange Syne/Bring It On Home To Me" You'll really like it.

In fact, I bought a record called Retrospective and it shipped today. It contains Spanish Harlem. I'll be sure to listen carefully. This is a Hybrid SACD too so I bet it's the exact same ditty you have.

One of my all time favorites is Eva Cassidy. Her voice is incredible - she can sing anything - blues, jazz,... She can literally sing the telephone book. She can go between sounding soft and gentle in one song to outright powerful in another. May be the most versatile voice I have heard. The ablum 'Songbird' is incredible. Unfortunately she passed away young and only became recognized world wide after her death.

A couple names I didn't see on anyone's list are
    Patsy Cline and Natalie Merchant.

NM does a couple songs on the Billy Bragg/Wilco Mermaid Ave
    collaboration that are excellent IMHO.

there is a band from Kansas City, MO that i really enjoy called Vedera. the lead singer is Kristen May - her voice really soars in concert. they only have one album right now ("Weight of an Empty Room" which they recorded when the band was known as Veda). they signed to Epic last year, have a new EP out, and the final touches are being made on their major label debut which will be entitled "Stages."

    peace,
