Female Vocalists

Over the past several years or so I have been trying to get out of the same music that I always listen to by purchasing some new music. Yah I know, I was living is the Stone Age. I keep going back to the female vocalists CD rack more and more. Anyway, I have listed a few female vocalists that I really like and am looking for others that fit the general category of the ones I have listed. The other imperative feature is a GOOD recording and SACD if available.
Thanks folks.
Norah Jones
Sarah Brightman
Diana Krall
Alison Krauss
Loreena McKennitt
Amy Winehouse
Sarah McLachlan
Patrica Barber

BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Couldn't agree more. Any CD by her is wonderful. She has a wide dynamic range and is recorded very well. She was recorded from mic directly to disk in the past to avoid all the mixing BS.
Highly recommended. -
Mobile Fidelity has released a couple Allison Krauss titles that are great recordings. If you go to Music Direct's site, look at the MoFi releases, they should have them.
Diana Krall has a couple SACD releases. I have Love Scenes, which is good. I believe that Live in Paris has been released in Super Audio; if it hasn't, the redbook version that I have heard sounds good as well.Wristwatch--->Crisco -

Check out Sia
Sometimes a bit unrefined but I personally like hearing the imperfections. It let's you know it's real.
The song "Where I belong" is incredible. -
....Try Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now....you won't recognize her. And of course ...Cassandra Wilson

Everyone should own at least one from Ella Fitzgerald. Tough to beat that voice.
This is a good one:

Thanks Carl, I had put that on my list. Is the XRCD and XRCD2 just a supposedly better recording of redbook?Michael

Yes. I was pleasantly surprised. 20 bit, made in Japan and it just smacks of quality build. For more info, look here. Cardboard folding case, book of lyrics, I was very happy with the buy. I think I got it from Elusive disk look here.Carl -

Though I can barely stand her personality (or lack there of).....Barbra Streisand is amazing.
I also hate to....but have to give credit to Whitney Houston.
On the rest of my list are the aforementioned Diana Krall, Eva Cassidy, Sarah McLachlan, Patrica Barber, Stevie Nicks.....as well as Tracy Chapman, Annie Lennox, Linda Perry, Karen Carpenter.
I'm sure there are some others, but I've just had enough BULLEIT(Mmmmmm) that I can't think of the rest.HT

I know most on this forum would rather jam rusty nails into their ears than listen to her, but I have always enjoyed Bjork's voice immensely. Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star also does it for me, as does PJ Harvey.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

did you get a chance to compare XRCD vs. regular CD? My regular amada's dreaming CD is a decade old...might have to get a xrcd versionmy 7.(1x4) HT setup

I'm not really into the solo pop female artists, but if u wanna throw some rock female artists then I suggest Flyleaf! They have my fav. female leadsinger! Right now her name escapes me!

I have to add Sinead O'Connor to my list. Look past the controversy of the past and focus on her spectacular voice. Some of her best material was during her angst ridden period. Now on some of tje trad. Irish songs she sings beautifully."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul!

That will be hard to compare since the XRCD process involves a new remastering and proprietary manufacturing (now both by JVC in Japan). On the other hand, XRCDs are not always better sounding than the regular CD version. This is just my own experience, of course. -

Unfortunately, I haven't. I'd be interested to know that comparison also. The import disks have always impressed me that they were made better. JVC claims the XRCD process is an improvement. The disk was so well engineered to begin with, a better process might improve the SQ.Carl -
Tierney Sutton
Dancing in the Dark: Inspired by the Music of Frank Sinatra (Multichannel Hybrid SACD)
Great voice. "Inspired" meaning she changes things up a bit so if you're a die-hard original version type of guy, you might not be happy. Good album for a quiet evening. Downside is perhaps there's a bit too much emphasis on her technical abilities and not enough music to it? Hard to compete when the other SACD in the carousel is Diana Krall singing with an orchestra. I don't own any other Sutton CD/SACD so perhaps someone else will chime in. -
