I went in with very low expectations and I knew about the whole alien thing. It wasn't too bad. I won't be buying it, I don't think it is good enough to fit in with the first 3. I also don't think its as bad as the dudes on Southpark did. Did anyone see that southpark episode. That was one of the funniest most disturbing things I have seen in a long time. I rented this and watched it last night. I thought the plot with the aliens was ridiculous. And then the unbelievable parts were... well.... *really* unbelievable like nuking the fridge or the swinging with the monkeys. Audio was pretty good, I thought the gun shots could have sounded a little fuller though.

It was almost like Indiana Jones meets the X files. Fun movie though.

I just watched it the other day with my gf and we both agreed that it was terrible. It was pretty obvious they were just trying to milk a few extra dollars out of the Indiana Jones series.

I'm not sure what anyone expected. You knew they had to move it forward 20 years... because it has been 20 years since they made the last one. The natural progression is to take it from the serials of the 30s to the style of movie (and mood) of the 50s - aliens, red scare, etc. They couldn't just keep going with the 30s serial style of the originals. I thought they did a fair job of moving it to a new genre while keeping enough familiarity to make it feel like a sequel.

Were there ridiculous parts? SURE! But... c'mon, people. The mine cart chase in Temple of Doom wasn't exactly realistic. Or the guy pulling out a still beating heart. Or the freakin' Ark of the Covenant. Or the Holy Grail. Or any of the countless traps made from rock by civilizations who couldn't possibly have created them. Ridiculous was kind of this series' milieu!

That said, I think the writing could've been better... and the skull shouldn't have been the solution to every puzzle in the movie. But the movie accomplished exactly what it set out to do: entertain you with impossible nonsense for two hours, just like the other three movies.

This, my friends, is the danger of going into movies with preconceptions. Sometimes, ya' gotta' shut off the ole' thinker and just go along for the ride.

This has some of the worst and most fake looking CGI I've seen in a very long time and on Blu it's even more prominent then at the theater. I sure hope if there's a #5 Lucas isn't involved, or at least his special effects team.

The vis FX were pretty weak in this particular movie but hoping that Industrial Light and Magic isn't involved is a bit much considering they are one of the best in the industry. :p

I just think he stretched them too thin, having them create a virtual jungle and composting the live actors with the looping camera movements etc. That scene I thought looked the worst.

    +1

I rented the BD last week and could criticize this one for the same reasons most of you have posted, but I still get a kick out of Indy. Park your brain and enjoy HF. He's quite a bit more shopwarn, but still delivers. I watched the extras. This guy at 65 still did about 80% of his stunts...some amazing stuff there. I'll watch it again before I take it back :).

WTH does my post count have to do with enjoying a movie???

I don't go to check out the sound, I don't go to examine the CGI, special effects, ect. I just go to be entertained. 9 times out of 10 I usually am.

Mark & I saw Dark Knight last week while I was down there. IT WAS TERRIFIC!!! It was also aptly named. talk about a roller coaster ride!:D

That wasn't anymore realistic than Indy, but I bet you all loved it.

    What's the difference?

I watched it with my wife last weekend. We enjoyed it, but I did think the aliens were a bit much. I watched Ironman last week too, and although it was just about as far fetched I enjoyed it more.

I'd watch both of them again.

I watched it for the first time Last night with my Son. We both liked it. The new THX intro was very cool and sounded awesome.

I liked the originals and this one was fine. I have no problem with it. yeah it was fake but it's not based on real life. I love how he keeps punching people in the classic movie/tv way. That was the best parts of the movie for me. Not to mention how he never lost his hat even going over those 3 waterfalls. LOL that was classic.

I finally got around to watching this.

I'd like to say I went into this movie witha pretty open mind. I heard the negative reviews, and said "they just don't get it." Indiana JOnes is fun, shut off your brain fare, it can't be that bad.

That being said, it sucked. But the worst part is, the things people complained about the most were the LEAST of my concerns. First, the fact that Indy (and Marion) are in their 60's. I thought they played this perfectly. Indy essentially turned into Sean Connery's role from Crusade. His age was acknowledged and used reasonably. They didn't try to hide it or pretend he was still 35.

The other big complaint OTHERS had was the main subject matter (this is where the spoilers come in). The main crux of the film focuses on aliens. Or at least interdimensional beings, I"m not sure which, or even if there means to be distinction. All amounts to the same thing. Big deal. If you're not Christian, Aliens and Christian relics (well, I suppose the Arc of the Covenent is more of a Judaic relic) are on the same fairy tale level, and as an agnostic myself I'd say equally likely to have foundations in reality. And then the Temple of Doom was about a magical cult that tore people's hearts out while they were still alive. C'mon. Granted Doom was the weakest (by a MILE) of the original trilogy, but the fact remains that the Indiana Jones canon is littered with implausible plot lines.

So why DID it suck? First, for a movie that likely had a GIGANTIC budget (IMDb estimates 185 million), it looked CHEAP. Several of the scenes just looked so obviously to be on a sound stage to me. I know that seems ridiculous, but it was just glaringly obvious. Everything seemed so FAKE. Especially considering Raiders was made 27 years ago and seems VASTLY more realistic, especially in the action scenes.

Second, the action scenes themselves. Apart from the unrealistic filming, they just seemed to be trying too hard to make them as elaborate and outlandish as possible. I hate to keep comparing to the originals, but I think you invite it when you restart a franchise over a decade after it had died; yes there's ridiculous action in all three of the original movies, but it never seems particularly forced, and there's at least some breaks in the middle for non-action stuff. It felt like once they got rolling on this movie (say after the first half hour), they tried to just lead one action scene into the next, with each being bigger and badder.

And finally, Indy himself. I hate to say this, because I really like Harrison Ford, but the reason the character always worked is because he had that cool air of confidence and smugness about him, while still maintaining a human side. Everything about the character in this one seemed so much more forced. HIs interactions with Shia that would have played as nonchalant comments before felt like they were trying to make Indy as cool as humanly possible. I don't know, like my other complaints, it's hard to really qualify this one as it was more of a feeling I got than a specific complaint.

In fairness to me, I'm not a sequel hater. I really liked the newer Star Wars movies (prequels, whatever) aside from some of the more obvious complaints. I'm not a Lucas hater either, though I recognize his serious flaws. So I'd like to think my dislike of this movie is legitimate rather than just prejudice against the furthering of a franchise I love so much.

SO there it is. For all my hate, the movie is still a lot of fun to watch, which I guess should be all that REALLY matters. And if I didn't know and love the original trilogy, I would probably bump this up a few notches, but really, not much.

Oh, and to those of you who have to jump down everyone's throats just because you liked it and they didn't... get a life. What someone takes away from a movie is up to them. Calling everyone names because they dare to have an opinion that differs from yours is truly pathetic. Much moreso than a little overanalyzation.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I was going to write up a review of this movie, but it looks like after seeing it that it wouldn't be worth my time. Lame acting, cheesy humor, weird **** story line for an Indy movie and the absolute most unbelievable [and cheesy] ways for Jones to get out of sticky situations.

I would not recommend this movie for any Indiana Jones fan. I'd barely recommend it to those who know nothing about the three prior movies. To me, they should have let the saga go in good standing like the series M*A*S*H. This movie brought the persona of Jones down and personally I will not go see the next one. Yes, this one was that bad.

20 years and then this? Pffft.
