PC as source/transport - post your experiences

Looks like we lost some posts from earlier today.
So, do you need a router or can you just connect the SB to the PC by wireless or cat5/6? I know nothing about networks or setting one up, so maybe a router is a necessary part of the network. I'll have to research this more if I decide to pursue a SB.
I also mentioned in a missing post that I will still need my PC's coax spdif bitstream for video files, mp3+g, etc. for files that I select using my projector as a remote display. So, the time and expense running the coax will not be wasted if I get a SB down the road.

I just browsed the site a bit, but plan to dig deeper. Obviously seems to be geared to the kinds of topics in this thread.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. I rip my cd's to iTunes via loseless, but my ps3 nor my 360 can play that, so I re-rip them in mp3 format 320kbps. Then use the media server feature in WMP to stream the audio via cat6 to my 360/ps3, whichever I feel like listening to.Panasonic VIERA 46" 1080p plasma
