Unfilled, they are about 10.2Kg each. Google says that's 22.5 pounds

When I was deciding on which speaker stand to buy, I narrowed down my choices to either the HR70 or the MR28. But every now and then I wondered if I should have gone with the HR70, because the HR70 has bigger top and bottom plates, which would make it more stable.

When your stands are unfilled, and you placed your speakers on top, do the stands feel stable to you?

    They feel stable.
If I push sideways at the top of the speaker, the speaker is the first thing that moves and the stand keeps standing.

Maybe I fill the stands just to be sure.

Do you have a picture of the MR28/LSi9 combination?

I'm thinking of using the HS 100 for my LSiFx surrounds.

Fedex delivered the stands a couple of days ago. But I still haven't assembled them yet.:o

The MR28 is not welded like the HR70, they need to be assembled. One of these days I will get around to doing it, and I will post a picture once it's all done.

The MR28 weighs about 32lbs each, unfilled. I have been thinking of just using the stands as they are, unfilled. The only thing that worries me about the MR28 is the small top and bottom plates. Especially the bottom plates, 9x10, it's about two thirds of the size of the HR70 bottom plate.

And oh, are you using blu tac or any other sticky clay to affix your speakers to the top plate?

I've only used the sticky round pads delivered with the stands. They are only sticky on one side. You can see them in the second picture I posted.

I own and love Natural Foundations, too, but they are not very heavy, although the bases are nice and wide.

Are you the same dvdit from AA? Must have been the power of google!:D

Well, my Target MR28 stands got delivered last week, but I still haven't gotten around to assembling them yet... too lazy. But I will post a picture once it's setup.

As to the difference between the HR70 and the MR28. Both are the same height, 28". The top and bottom plates on the HR70 are larger than the top and bottom plates on the MR28. HR70 is fully welded, MR28 needs to be assembled. Each HR70 weighs about 25lbs, as posted here. Each MR28 probably weighs close 33lbs.

I went with the MR28 just out of sheer vanity, it is the top of the line. In hindsight, maybe I should have given the HR70 more consideration.

And one more thing, the audioadvisor specs for the MR28 is wrong. The top plate on the MR28 measures 6x8, the same as the top plate on the MR24.

Another possibility you can look into the Atlantis Reference Stands. Audioadvisor has them on sale. The 28" one is on sale for $249 plus shipping. The Atlantis Reference stands are even more massive than the Target MR stands. I think each stand weighs something like 40lbs. But the bottom plate only has 3 spikes, as opposed to 4 spikes on all Target stands.

^^^Yeah, same dvdit from AA. The thing is, my wife wants to see the stand with the speaker mounted. I already have a VTI 31" stand but they look very skinny and a bit too high. I bought the stands for surround speakers a while back. I am still not quite sure I would keep the Lsi9, it all depends on the performance of the LSic which I haven't purchased yet. If I decided to keep it I want the best looking and very stable stand for it. BTW, I bought the Lsi9 and the Revel F32 and C32 at the same time and driven by my Proceed amp, I find the Lsi9 very musical. So much so I am going to return the $6000.00 Revels back to the dealer if the performance of the Lsic is on par with the Revel C32. I just wish I could accommodate another Lsi9 as a center. What a fantastic speaker.

I have Omnimount speaker stands for my LSi9's, and I filled them up with a cement instead of sand. It was an extra work and I don't know which would have been better, but for the same sized bag, the cement weighed 80 lbs. whereas the All-purpose sand weighed 40 or 50 lbs. at Home Depot. So I figured the cement is denser than the sand and heavier. But the sand seems to have been a more uniform density throughout than the cement mixture of sand and gravel.

Uh, did you mix the cement with water or leave it dry? I think either way it's bad. If you mixed it so it hardened then it just makes it harder to move in the future. If it's dry and it ever leaks out, then it would be dustier and may make more of a mess.
