Is the cable plugged in?? What distance apart do you have them? The sda sound effect is not as loud as the stereo. Are any of the drivers frozen or scratchy sounding?

YES THEY ARE PLACED AS RECOMMENDED, CABLE PLUGED IN, DRIVERS SEEM TO SOUND FINE. MIGHT BE MY ROOM OR MY EARS AS WE GET OLDER. JUST SEEMS LIKE THEY HAD MORE EXTENSION WHEN NEW. THOUGHT THIS WAS A DIRECT THREAD TO POLK TECHNICIANS (ie those nasty comments)

I Was Thinking It May Be the Old Caps In The Cross Overs, Reasearch Shows The Sonic Caps Seem Be A Great Replacement. My Problem Is That I Would Not Stop There I Would Go With Thier Recommended Solder, Silver Wire And Rewire The Entire Speaker Getting Rid Of Those Old Crimps, Big Job, I Wonder If It Is Worth It to hard wire the speaker?

well i a kind of a perfectionist so it will be a big job! not a tech but do HAVE nasa high reliability solder skills. biggest thing is the time coherance between slight differances in wire length with a higher velocity rating.

I'm sure you will be able to hear the time coherance [sic] differances [sic] between 6" of 16g wire and 12" of 16g wire.

well with 12 drivers a side i am sure the wire measurments had a tolerance, but silver wire is differant. the signal is much faster and i dont know if mathew and his design team calculated this. thats why i am here, its suppossed to be a direct link to technical support. thanks for those supporting me in this thread.

Are you hearing anything out of the SDA drivers? Are you 2 channel listening or HT? Redoing the crossovers is alway a great benefit. I am not jumping into the cabling arguments. Changing out the caps and resistors is a good idea and using silver solder and installing new binding post helps.

Have you ever actually looked inside the speakers ? Have you noticed that they use clip on speaker connections that barely connect well when NEW...much less 20 years down the road.

Before you start talking about calculating speaker wire measurements ...silver wire...etc....go in and clean up the connections you already have and use a pair of needle nosed pliers to tighten them all up before clipping them back onto the speakers....you will gain more from that ( Maybe even fix your poorly imaging SDA's ...it's VERY possible you are having drivers dropping out of the mix from poor/oxidized/loose connections ) then reinventing the wheel.

The crossover upgrades have a solid Polkie following and some great posts of the user comments, pictures and reviews, are found with the search function on the website. I wouldn't waste your time on rewiring the speakers and put more effort into the x-over rebuild.

Keep in mind, I wouldn't do it unless I was extremely bored. I think that enough members have found positive results with the upgrade to validate it being worth some thought. If you want to hot rod your SDA's, by all means, knock yourself out.
