I have not had anything to say in awhile, but after I saw the latest Polk add in Steriophile Guide to Home Theater I had to take the time to say how much it sucks. The add talks about the new LSi line of speakers and at the top of the add, in bold letters it says HIGH END SPEAKERS FROM POLK? YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS. Then it has this little tiny picture of the LSi15 and a great big picture of Matt Polk. WHAT THE?? The first thing I think If I didnt know better is that this insinuates that Polk finally produced a high end speaker. (not so) The add degrades POLK!! Second The speakers should have the large photo not Matt Polk. When I bought my speakers, I know that I look at the speakers and there specs. Not what one of the owners of the company looks like. I dont care and personally I dont think anybody else does. I think Matt should follow his partners lead and stay out of the adds or at least be a much smaller part of the add. Having Matts picture in the add will not sell any more speakers than having my picture in the add. Marketing needs to wake up. I do not want to see you guys present your speakers like this. Im sure Matt is a great guy, who cares about audio very much. I don't care!! Your selling high end speakers not Matt. ACT LIKE IT PLEASE!! Let me tell you also that it hasn't been adds like this one that has made you the speaker company that you are today. That add is truly a joke and a slam to the great speakers that Polk makes. Step IT UP!!!

You raise a valid point but look at it this way....How many other manufacturers actually put a REAL face (Not a model) in their ads? To me it says Matt has nothing to hide and stands beside (Behind?) his product. I don't see "Mr.Sony" or "Mr. Martin Logan" showing their face in public to back up their products. I think the ad works fairly well. -
Used to be that Stereophile wouldn't let a Polk add in their fine publication! The SDA's were a "trick" and not worth their mention. Now THAT is annoying!

But I will have to agree with dpd.....that add isn't very cool.The speakers you can hardly see.Bigger and in a real enviroment would have been better then Matts face......I like em but I like the speakers more.Dan

I was surprised to see a Polk ad
in Stereophile (proper) this month. I can't remember
the last time they've advertised there, and I've been
reading the mag off and on for 20 years.
I'm wondering whether they signed the ad contract
BEFORE or AFTER Stereophile began mentioning
Polk--in positive terms--over the past three months.

Actually, I think the add is pretty good. I think it harkens back to the old Polk ads with Matt in his lab coat. Back when Polk was a more boutique-ish brand. It will catch the attention of new folks as well as the folks who remember the old Polk ads. Kind of a nostaglia thing.
As far as the small picture of the Lsi15, Big freakin' deal. Who buys a speaker based on the picture in an add? The point is to raise interest and awareness which I think the add does quite well.

Mr. Polk has been putting his pretty boy face in his ads since as long as I have been into High End Stereo(late 70's early 80's)...and his reputation has done nothing but grown since the incept of the company. I think the point you might be missing DPD is a little thing called brand recognition...just like the Coke or the Porche label.....Mr. Polks face pretty much conjures up the vision of quality stereo products. Although I would also disagree with the High End label......I would say that Matthew Polk and Co. make a quality speaker with good sound quality for real people, i.e Very Good Bang For The Buck. As far as the ad campaign , if it ain't broke, don't fix it.....that's why his company is very respected in the stereo trade.

Well, Dan, that's MY opinion, you have yours. You can see the speaker, what's the point?
To me, the point of the ad is to generate interest in the LSi line (not one speaker specifically) which I think it does quite well.

raife1 post of the old Polk addd to me is a good adddd. I see what is being sold with out having to squint. Its much better than the adddddd that I originally posted about. This is just my opinion. I myself can see a big difference between the two addddds. Hope I spelled correctly this time. Sure other speaker companys have there main guy in the ad but not to the same extent as the add that I originally posted about. You know the aD i'm talking about.

Sorry Russ My opnion stands.........The ad sucks.The speakers are micro.Matt is large.Last ad I saw of Polks with Rt's was the rt800i's in cherry,all the wood chips on the ground I could see the speakers well...Lsi's are a small **** pic off the website......Sorry looking.Dan

As much as you hate Bose speakers, Polk really needs to learn how to market their products like Bose.

yes, yes YES! I think it's a good idea to have Matt in the ad's. but i'd really enjoy seeing more pics too. Cram the ad with beautiful pictures of the whole speaker line... and maybe have a smaller pic of Matt. most other speaker makers show several pics of theirs. why not for the next ad's, make some changes. It could only help, not hurt.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
