    I smoked about 18 yrs.
Quit a little over 5 yrs. ago
    Attempt:1
You must really want to before even trying
Myself,I spent a week in the hospital,Doc said quit,I said no problem. I guess sometimes it takes a scary moment to get you to do things

I also used a very bad cold I got in lte Nov '07 as the springboard to quitting. When you feel like your nose is double fisted and you are fighting for your breath (was in my chest too), having a smoke was the LAST thing on my mind! :)

Best non-smoking policy, which is no longer allowed, was in NJ. Smoking in public places (bars, resturants, etc.) was banned in 2006. BUT, if you went into the casinos you could smoke in the designated areas (marked by thick red lines painted onto the floor). Now the casinos are not making as much money because the smokers have to go outside! :D

In CA, since 1997, smoking in restaurants was banned, so you have cigar bars there which is okay for CA but try that in New England! :p

Bottom line is smoking is 100% legal and should be policed by the establishment's owner NOT the government! If the owner want's to make an establishment non-smoking, more power to them! If a non-smoker is offended by smoke, go someplace else.

Personally, I never liked the smell of cigarettes when I am easting, even when I smoked, so I like smoke free establishments.

I smoke, I like it, it's my damn choice, I'm not quitting and I find this thread offensive.

I'm not surprised that you find socially unacceptable behavior restrictions that impede on normal people's sensibilities offensive.

I don't know what the hell you just said there Ron, but while smoking may be socially unacceptable in "your" world it is a "right, freedom and choice" in ours.

I have never once tried a cigarrette. True story. Are you going to quit, Candy?

In high school someone tried to tell the principal that I didn't smoke but he didn't believe it because all of my buddies smoked including his son. So no I've never smoked.

Nobody likes inhaling smoke against their will. its disgusting and unhealthy, and it should be banned.
but there's a long way from that simple to understand fact, to the relentless witch hunt that has been going on.
I really don't get whats the big deal with designating areas for smokers

OK, sure I agree that cigarettes are unhealthy and for people who don't smoke and don't want to be around 2nd hand smoke that's their a choice. But to define cigarette smoking as socially unacceptable is incorrect. Cigarettes are not totally illegal. IMO, socially unacceptable would be like smoking crack, robbing banks, cattle rustling, that sort of thing.
You're talking about 2 entirely different issues here.
It would however be "socially unacceptable" to light up in a movie theater or the new baby wing at a hospital. THAT, I'm sure we could all agree with being socially unacceptable. Smokers or not.

I smoke the occasional cigar, although at one point it wasn't occasional...Being in the military kinda harbored the habit too....I find it funny that you can't smoke in a bar now though.....As far as socially acceptable goes, I could give a damn if someone wants to smoke cigarettes, that is their choice....I think all this hyper-sensitivity crap needs to stop, and this whole baiting thing is far less acceptable to me than smoking in a public place...

Theorists including Calvin Thomas and Judith Butler have suggested that homophobia can be rooted in an individual's fear of being identified as ****.[citation needed] At least one study indicates that homophobia in men is correlated with insecurity about masculinity.[30]

They have argued that a person who expresses homophobic thoughts and feelings does so not only to communicate their beliefs about the class of **** people, but also to distance themself from this class and its social status. Thus, by distancing themself from **** people, they are reaffirming their role as a heterosexual in a heteronormative culture, thereby attempting to prevent themself from being labelled and treated as a **** person.

People here are no longer allowed to smoke in bars and restaurants. Everyone must go outside. Which still sucks as they all huddle around the door ways so we must hold our breath when walking into a building.
