I noticed incredible imaging as far back as Opiate.

As far as producing those kind of sounds or effects, I don't know. Can you record certain sounds or noises out of phase with the rest of the track?

And to think people actually made fun of me for bringing all my TOOL CD's to the Chicagoland PF.

Didn't want to hear a single song.

Hope they can see what they missed out on now.

Next time the guys are here, I'll be sure to throw on some Opiate and 10,000 days, whether they like it or not. :D

Lateralus is on the "SDA recommended playlist" so I really don't see what the problem was. Judging a book by its cover / rep I suppose.

Had to jump in on this...I also have the complete Tool collection and I agree they have "matured" through the years but always seem to keep things tongue in cheek. As far as sonics, I don't think there is another group out there that cares about their recordings as much as they do. My SRS's just disappear, especially on their last two releases. The dynamics are excellent and the imaging is psychadelic. If you are even a bit under the influence, it can scare the **** out of you. I also have to pimp the fact that Danny (drums) is from my home town of Paola, Kansas. Hopefully, we can get a few more albums out of them before time takes it's toll-like it does to most bands.

I miss A Perfect Circle. I felt that this was a very mature Tool-like sound. Raw yet with an emotional and different point of view.

I haven't been a big fan of Maynard's other side project to date. Picked up Puscifer, and just wasn't impressed with it. Am I missing something here?

Maynard's "other" side project. Started out as a fake band on an old Mr. Show sketch (which Maynard was in btw) and I guess at some point he took it and ran with it. For a while there was just a website with some interesting live songs, etc, but now there is a HORRENDOUS album out. Just terrible. You can pick it up at BB for like 12$, if you really want to throw some $$ down the toilet.

I'd recommend giving it a listen somewhere 1st.

The only Tool cd I own is Aenima and I like it. I bought it because I have Polk SDA's and someone said it sounds great on the SDA's. What are your opinions of it compared to their others. Any other Tool stuff that sounds great on Polk SDA's?
    Thanks, Mike

    I don't have SDA's, but you'll probably also enjoy 10,000 days.

It's Maynards long time side project (he's been in soundtracks under that name for quite a while) which is absolutely nothing like Tool. Some of it is funny, but most of it sucks. I almost think it's a joke to see how much crap he can get people to buy. He couldn't believe the obscene amount of money people were paying for his paper shooting targets that he shot up and sold as a joke, at first. He has that type of sense of humor, then again, could be serious. You never know.

    From wikki:

Puscifer's original name was Umlaut, "a premiere improvisational hardcore band."[2] The name "Puscifer" was first publicized as a fictional band in the first episode of Mr. Show, including Keenan and Adam Jones as members. Jones is not associated with Puscifer otherwise, although artwork by Jones has been featured on Puscifer apparel (the "Your Mom's a ****" shirt, specifically).

Puscifer is "as much a clothing line as it is a band", with the clothing items produced in limited numbers. Keenan collaborated on a leather jacket with Paul Frank.[2]

Keenan describes Puscifer as "simply a playground for the various voices in my head, [...] a space with no clear or discernible goals, [...] where my Id, Ego, and Anima all come together to exchange cookie recipes."[3]

Puscifer has no current plans to tour, though Keenan is working on short films with Ford Englerth and Jeffrey Brooks from Red Rock Entertainment Development that could be shown on a tour. These shorts are done in a similar manner to that of Mr. Show and Tom Waits' Big Time.[2]

On April 10, 2007, Keenan posted on the official website that a release may be aimed for mid-October.[4] A newer post on June 25, 2007 states that Joe Barresi mixed the first song, which will have a music video, as well as an alternate version of "Cuntry Boner", which will likely be released as a CD single with bonus tracks. Further mixing will be done by Keenan and Alan Moulder by August.[5]

Keenan announced at the end of July that the album would be titled "V" is for **** and, a few days later, he announced that the first single would be "Queen B" with a video released in late September.[6] On October 1, "Queen B" appeared on the podcast on puscifer.com. This was followed by the podcast release of "Trekka" on October 7. The album was released on October 30 and debuted at #25 on the Billboard 200.[7]

I got introduced to Tool through the Octane channel on Sirius with the 10000 Day stuff. Y'all have convinced me to go invest in the earlier stuff as well. Always been a avid Rush fan and so have dug thought provoking lyrics. Tool has a 'refined' raw emotion that I truely enjoy.

    Good reading - Thanks!!!!!!!

I never have heard of opiate till now, and don't really listen to 10000 days as it was a compressed copy. Maybe Larry can hook me up.
