Well right now it sounds pretty crappy but that's just because the amps haven't broken in yet. After charging for a few days however I can already hear the changing. When I first got them they were bright as hell.

    Oh man...

    Brand new Stratos Monos --

What a break in time from hell you are in for! LOL

After about 2-3 months yall get a jeckle and hyde thing! hahahha

The Candela is a little more subtle, but all the same -- it'll get MUCH better.

How did you end up with the Candela??

    KICKASS dude!!!

    Congrats!

Good to hear that you got them on time. Actually, before they were due. My amps took about a week to sound their best, and I believe that they were already broken in.....but unplugged for a period of two months [I don't know how many hours they were ran prior to purchasing]. Definitely give them some time.

Are you sure it's the amp breaking in? Are the speakers brand new? If yes, trying playing a 50 Hz tone at a decent level(maybe 1/4" to 1/2" cone excursion) for a few hours. The speaker suspension does the most breaking in of any component.

I don't know how many times I measured the specs on speaker, then realized it was brand new and had not been broken-in. With the woofer not in a box, playing the tone produces barely any sound and is therefore practical. It might annoy your neighbors if you do as suggested.

Nope, the speakers are more than broken in and have survived several previous amps. Do some reading on Odyssey gear. You will find "break in" is a major point of discussion and dare I say joy when it comes to these amps.

I sold my Ultrapath bp. I didn't care for the sound. Way too sterile for me. It was cool at first to hear how much detail it sucked out recordings, but something was missing. It occurred to me that it was literally sucking the life out of my music. I sold it on A'gon and called Klaus. He had a Candela for me when he dropped off my amps. Ahhh the luxuries of living in Indy.

I have to get back into it. I haven't had a working stereo for a month and a half. Despite the relatively **** sound, I still jammed out to three Zepplin Albums last night.

You're not highjacking, this is the kind of stuff I like to hear. Klaus is awesome. He came over and helped me set them up. The guy is the real deal. When I get a chance, I want to open mine up and post some pics. I wonder what if anything has changed between yours and mine.

The board is thicker if you got the new boards --

And they are double traced (front and back) -- alot more soldering

And you have the upgraded wiring and a few other things

But those new boards are kickass... alot more soldering and work on them - but they should sound much better overall...

Im probally not going to jump on them - because I like the sound so much...

But Im definitely going to pick up another set of Monos for my subs... so - maybe another set of Extremes.. or may go with SEs for the Taylos and move my current monos the subs -- who knows

Either way, its good **** and Klaus is awesome. Once that stuff settles in, you should be one happy camper...

Once they charge, itll sound better, and in about 3 months yall have a new post going w-t-f, amazing!

    So... awesome man...

The Stratos Extreme Monos -- particularly yours with those uber thick boards...

I think its like 300 or so burn in hours for a COMPLETE burn in...

    Quite a stretch

My Khartago sounded pretty good after about a week and a half..

Then one day I turned on the system and just couldnt get away, it sounded amazing... very wide, deep, smooth, beautiful... god what a sound I wont forget...

Took approx 3 months from purchase and it was apparent when it happened...

Its a glorious, horrendous wait! ;)

I just kept my entire rig on and listened when I wanted, which was often. :D

No, I wouldn't imagine that it "has" to be. I would [in theory] think that it would help.

I will say that when I played at length at performance levels, I did notice a marked improvement the next day. That said, it might have been the amp just doing the normal break-in. I really couldn't tell you anything concrete, just a casual observance. Sorry.

Wow... one hell of a system.

Let me ask you... I see a Monster Power device. Are those any good? I have been looking into conditioning, and I keep seeing Monster at good prices wherever I go, but I have been reluctant to buy one. With all that wonderful gear (how are the odysseys BTW?) is the Monster Power up to the task of supplying good A/C?

Back to the Odysseys, are those amps tube hybrids or are they all SS?

The Monster is great. They come well reviewed and I know many people who love them. AB tests are easy and more than convincing when compared to an otherwise naked connection to the wall outlet.

The Odysseys are complete SS. The Candela is tube and designed for SS.

I do plan on moving to a PS Audio Premier Power Plant eventually. From my understanding and discussion with others, any product less from PS Audio leads to marginal improvement.
