I stopped by my local Frys to pick up the LSI15 (I gave in) with the intentions to pay $237 each [already a great deal]. When the sales rep rang it up, it showed $199. It was so cheap that the sales rep didnt even want to put it under his name! hahah. I bought the pair. They have ONE of the "LEFT channel" left.

For those who bought the LS15, go price match!!!! :)

<Sigh> now its time to dig up the wallet for a amp! </Sigh>

    Wow...

Sorry, but to me - if Polk is authorizing this kind of price...

Then they are just **** over their previous customers...

    Talk about killing resale value...

Its almost to MLSish for me...

I had to go to the only authorized dealer in Austin TX (Mesa Home Systems) in 2002 or so (before Fry's had them) and paid over $1600+ for my 15's. Sold them for $850 local pickup about a year ago. Yeah, $199 each?? Not a happy camper. Although I did enjoy them for many years....

Why should I pay retail on my next Polk purchase? Anyone?

I would venture to guess that Fry's has chosen to either quit carrying the LSi's or Polk all together, and it is simply a one time close out sale.

Believe it or not the local CompUSA has been doing the same thing with some Bose products the last few days.

I dunno... some retailers i think overprice em.. but i hear that price is put on by Polk so I shouldn't blame the retailer. esp if they're going to basically give them way after a few years with to much overstock. even if they sold them for half price.. they'd still make more money than they are at $199 each. OMG! i wish I had a frickin' Fry's around here. ;)

Sorry to anger people who bought these speakers at a higher price but my intentions was to inform the recent (with 30 days) for a price match.

However, I was told my the sales clerk that they (frys) is losing a lot of money by selling it at 199.99. Basically, they need to clear out the inventory.
But if you talk to other authorized dealers, they will tell you its illegal to sell speakers below a certain price (the person had a fancy name for this price). Not sure how valid her statement was. But the item is on clearance (like tweeter selling polk audio for cheap) so I guess they can do anything they want.

Again, my intentions was not to upset others on the forum. If you can find a frys near your area that still has them (pretty much impossible). I called when the price was 237 and there were only 6-7 left. I doubt there are any more (hence the price drop again)

    The way retail works --

The manufacture gives you a LIST price and a MAP price

Basically a store can price their products at whatever they want...

But* the price at which they cant ADVERTISE below is MAP pricing (Minimum Advertised Price)

So lets say map is at 1499.99 -- you cant price 1499.95 or you could lose your dealership.

Now if Outpost is advertising 1499.99 - then selling them for much less, then who cares

But this still kind of makes Polk look bad...

It's not illegal it's just heavily frowned upon and they may loose the privlidge of carrying Polk if they consistently sell below a pre determined suggested lowest price. If it were "illegal" (as the other dealers suggest) that's called price fixing and that is illegal.

The pricing from Fry's has nothing to do with Polk Audio. If you think it makes Polk look bad, good for you, move along. You should pay more attention to the state of Fry's than to Polk Audio.

When I sold audio retail (high end store) manufacture pricing was anywhere from 35%-55% above cost. Those LSi for $199 is a ridiculous price and they are loosing quite a bit of money. My guess is it's left over stock that doesn't match up well, as in more left channel's than right channels. Perhaps some mixed color stock as well.

The $199 pricing has to be situation specific as it's not normal. Even when Tweeter was going out of business they didn't come close to selling even their floor models for this price.

In a big retailer it's a computer model that monitors inventory churn by segments. If a segment is churning below the rate that the CFO has set, then the model takes a predetermined course to move that inventory and free up capital to put against higher churning inventory segments. For the model to get to this pricing, the Polk LSi floorstanders have to be basically not moving at all. Even if they lose for example $600 on each LSi speaker they sell at $199, if that $199 they do make churns 10x on other inventory investment, then the $199 becomes $2000 less the $600 loss which gains $1400 less the cost of goods sold on the other inventory. I oversimplified it, but that's the way the computer models work.

I don't see how Polk can be held responsible for what Fry's does.

If Fry's has an overstock of these, that tells me they probably weren't selling anyway. Most likely because of the price. So they simply lowered them down to get them out the door so that they can probably put something in stock that WILL sell.

Nobody loses, especially if you bought them before all this. You still got very good speakers that you enjoy & should get your money's worth from them by playing them.

Now if you feel like you got ripped off, that is on you, not Polk & not Frys. It is simply how the market works.

I know the cost of the LSi15's, and it's many fold over what Fry's is dumping them for.
