Does this mean you Blu-ray guys gotta buy new BD players soon? If so, you're screwed.

The vast majority of blu-ray players out there don't have to worry about a thing. The ps3 has been a rock solid player since launch and is already profile 1.1 compliant (bonus view -- PIP) and it's been confirmed it will get profile 2.0 (bd-live --internet connectivity) in a future firmware update. There are between 2-3 million of them in the US alone. For the other half million or so dedicated players out there, if they can load the menus properly (decent BD-J implementation) they should continue to serve as stellar blu-ray movie players since bonus view and bd-live have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with picture or audio quality on the disk. For the earliest blu-ray adopters, just like for the earliest hd-dvd adopters, they will probably want to replace their machines after two good years of use just 'cause the new players will be cheap and loaded with far more features (as well as not being buggy, have better audio support, have shorter load times, etc.). But those earliest adopters probably already know who they are 'cause they're already experiencing java load difficulties. But it certainly is a minority of blu-ray owners. And I would expect the quality of players to continually improve in the new year. You just have to decide how much PIP and internet connectivity is worth to you when choosing new players. But for PQ and AQ the new profiles don't mean a thing.
