Hi Guys - I blew both tweeters in my RT600 - where can I find a replacement - if possible in Germany? How can I check if they are really dead?

Are the 600's bi-wire/bi-ampable, with two sets of posts? I don't think they are, but if there are two sets of binding posts on the back, make sure that the jumpers between them are there and that they're tight.
Were you playing loud music when they quit? If so then, yes, you probably blew them.
The best way to check to see if the tweeters are really dead is to remove them and connect your speaker wires directly to the terminals on the tweeters. You'll have to remove the raised plastic baffle that holds the midwoofer and the tweeter. The tweeters snap out of the bezel, though there may be no need to completely remove them. Disconnect the wires connected to the tweeter terminals and connect the speaker wire from one channel of your amp directly to the terminals on the tweeter. Some alligator clip leads might make it easier. Play some music very quietly and increase the volume slowly- it would be easy to ruin a functioning tweeter if you play a full range signal with too much volume - Listen carefully to see if the tweeter makes sound. If it does, then it might be okay. If not, it's dead. If they sound like they're working, then that would indicate to me that there's a problem either with your receiver/amp or the speaker's crossover (unlikely that both would be bad, however) It's also possible that the tweeters are damaged but still produce sound, but if that's the case they should produce sound when they're hooked up normally, too: They'll just sound bad.
I don't believe that an exact replacement for that tweeter is available from Polk any longer, but they do have a silk dome "functional replacement" that should work fine, especially since you need to replace both tweeters anyway.
Contact Polk customer service directly for directions as to how to obtain replacement parts. 1 800 377-7655 or you can email polkcs@polkaudio.com -
Thanks - I have only one post - and I followed your advice - both tweeters are dead...
Do you have the technical data on the tweeters so that I can look for a replacement here in Germany - it is a little difficult otherwise.
Thanks a lot - Stammi -
Polk do have equivalent replacements for those, as jcaut pointed out. I don't remember which one they are using though (but I can probably find out). Normal pricing was close to $100 per tweeter, but they were giving big discounts to Club Polk members at some point last year. FYI: the 6502 is also in the RT55, RT800 and CS400 speakers (possibly even some others). So, your issue seems to be how to get two tweeters shipped to Germany for a reasonable cost.
I can't imagine finding spares in Europe without uncanny good luck (I don't think they are nearly as prevalent on the used, or even new, market as they are here). If you are close to the U.S. military bases over there, that may be your best bet.
Oh, and welcome to Club Polk! Sorry that the circumstances are not exactly good though.Alea jacta est! -
Thanks guys - just talked to customer service - they will help me to find out how to get a replacement shipped to Germany. Will be better than fixing them with parts which will not be perfect....
Greetings from Munich - better go skiing tomorrow..... -
I posted in your wtb thread about haveing two of these for sale. If you want to look into seeing what it would take for me to ship them to you maybe I could work a deal out with you to save you some money. Let me know.
Edit: I have shipped a processor to germany. The guy that bought my processor did it through ups and ups came right to my house and picked up the processor. If I am not mistaken if the purchase is under $1500.00 there is not that much to getting them shipped.
