Honestly I had two polk momo 8's in my truck once and they were the best sounding 8's I have heard, but they just didn't last but 6 months. I had them in the right boxes and 200 watts on each one. It's just a defective product when the spider comes apart from the cone. Both of my subs were the same way never seen anything like it before. It looked like the glue they used just come apart. Ever since then ive been skepical of using polks subwoofers.

I must admit though some of these reviews are funny as hell.

Reason I do not take them very seriously. I mean, look at how they are writing the review. If you like them that's all that matters, but you quoting these "reviews" is not going to persuade me that it's a great sub. Now, if you would have told me about other subs that you've owned, what enclosures you had them in, now much power you had going to them that's one thing, but you quoting some of these reviews is a joke in itself.

You have got to be joking with this, what is the point? First of all, I would not allow those guys to touch my system. I have seen several of their shows, and I take it as entertainment (funny). I've yet to see a quality SQ/SQL type install in that show. Bandpass boxes are generally not known for their SQ properties. Why not tune the enclosure to something lower.

Normally having these issues points to overpowering a speaker, or an incorrect enclosure. This could also happen if your enclosure is not airtight. Now, I am not saying that things can't be defective, but to keep getting defective gear from the same company (and what I consider one that makes quality gear) over and over would lead me to take a closer look at my install.

NO they were in the right boxes. I had them in the sealed Qlogic boxes with a sealed volume of 0.35 cubic feet. I was running a mono alpine v power on them with a power rating of 350x1 RMS.

Every Q-logic box that I have owned had air leaks in it, except for one. I have owned many over the years. I actually blew two of the early Solobarics (round S-12C's from back in the 90's) due to this. Crutchfield was nice enough to send me another sub, and enclosrue (this one leaked as well). Whenever I bought one on their boxes, I bought it knowing that I would have to seal it myself when I got it home. As long as you were aware of this, they are fine.

"1 awg power wire, the thickest wire you can use"

    Ever heard of 2/0?

I had my old mm6 components for 2 years at almost 2x their RMS before one of the tweeters went out. The only series I didnt think could handle what their RMS was were the original mm120s and mm12s.

I was over at circuit city last night just killing time. And I had a rep to demo all his subs in the room. And basically all of them sounded like **** except for last years model of the mtx jackhammers. All of these subs were being pushed by kicker amps. They had kicker cvr's, polk db's, kicker L5's, pioneer, sony explode, MTX jackhammers thats about it. This years line of mtx subs are not good at all. They had two mtx jackhammers 12's in a sealed box last years model not this years and i'm hear to tell you they were gettin it. But other than that everything they sale is pure junk.

Dude, you really need to quit basing your opinion on how gear sounds by what it sounds like in a Circuit City showroom, especially subs. Those are not even close to being ideal setups.

As Mac said, you can't really base what the subs sound like in the listening rooms. The same goes for speakers.

It's really hard to take you and your opinions seriously when you make the comments that you have been making in this entire thread.......you have alot of learning/reading to do when it comes to car audio.

    TMI......way TMI.

But I do know what you mean- when the closest CC to me (south of the border) first got the db212-2 setup in stock, they were blasting it in the store, and I was drawn to the car audio section like moth to flame. I'm kind of over the SPL thing, but it sounded decent at high volume (without the cabin gain factored into the equation).

I would have to disagree....while they make some nice subs, there are quite a few other offerings out there from several companies.

Not really......open your eyes to what's out there. I own a W6, so I am well aware of what it can do. What the W6 is good at is being an all around good performer, it is a well rounded sub.

Yes I know that. And even though I don't own one. I have heard one in my buddy's ride. And I don't see how a sub could sound any better than that.

I'm running the W1 in my truck again. And even though the JBL would play lower and louder the W1 just honestly sounds better.

I can....I actually liked the sound that my Alpine Type-X was putting out a little better. The only thing with the Type-X was that you need to have a solid front stage to keep up with it, and not many people do. The SI Mag 12 is also a very strong sub, not only in SQ, but also in the output department. Rainbow has a couple of subs that are SQ oriented as well. Image Dynamics, as well as Hertz have some very nice subwoofer offerings too.

yeah true I feel ya on that. A lot of times when you find a sub with excellent sound quality it will usually play very loud, and you often times find that the subs are over powering your front stage. It's hard to find a happy medium.

I have a 10W6v2, and replaced it with a Polk SR124 last summer. I like the SR better in a number of ways, though the W6 seemed to move more air, had more impact in a smallish enclosure (.85 cubic feet). I stepped up to a larger enclosure ratio-wise for the 12" (1.20 cubic feet) for low-end extension purposes, but one day when I have too much time I'll simulate a smaller enclosure with the SR to see how it fairs in the impact department.

I found the SR 12" had better bass up front (as opposed to having low frequencies localized), more midbass presence, and a fair bit more output off the same 640 watts RMS. I realise this is an "apples vs. oranges" comparison, but I didn't want to spend almost $800 (best local pricing) for a 12 or 13W6v2 to do an honest A/B test :o.

I have a nagging ongoing amp problem I've been meaning to solve, but one day I'll post a comparison review...review also "coming soon" :D.

I actually really liked my Arc Audio 12D2 (Arc Series). This thing was no bass monster, but this is not what it was designed for. What it did do is sound very nice. It was a very musical sub. The other one I really liked was the Alpine SWX-1242D. This was a very clean sounding sub, with some serious low end. This thing digs deep. I actually want to pick another one up. Alpine came out with a new version that is supposed to be more efficient, but I think I will probably go with the older one.
