Red Wine

I've written the wine lists for several restaurants I've worked at and I'm certified as level 3 through the Court of Master Sommeliers. If anyone has specificic questions, I'll be happy to help, but drink what tastes good to you! Is a 1982 Chateau Petrus going to taste better than a 2005 chilean merlot..... uh yeah, but the price difference is 2000 bucks. Seriously though, if anyone has any wine questions, or needs food/ wine pairing ideas, just PM me, I'm always happy to help.
What do you serve as a daily table red at home or a bottle you relax to at the end of the day? Maybe you're tired of tasting wine all day so you spend the evening drinking a Diet Coke or you're too busy trying different wines? -

Honestly I find that a domestic zinfandel is one of the best "bang for the buck" wines. Zin is extremely versitile, it can stand up to bold foods, but also can easily be enjoyed on its own due to its low tannic quality. That, and a good quality Zin will usually cost far less than a Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir of equal quality. Pinot is a finicky grape to grow, and typically produces low yields of high quality grapes. Cabs have a different problem. Most of the best domestic cabs are grown in Napa, where the cost of land per acre has skyrocketed. When you add in the fact that most of the better cabs need extensive barrel aging and even more time in the bottle before they reach their prime, it makes it easy to rule them out for an every day table wine. You will find that south american wines are very budget friendly, but I've had mixed results, and don't think the quality is consistant on many brands. Of course, there are loads of other wines to mention, but at the end of the day it's no diet coke for me. Probably a Zin though"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
