ok, so i'm sitting here after 2 bottles of red (with my wife) wondering if anyone out there enjoys the good life w/ red wine. i'm particulary fond of red blends from the US (meritage) or from France (bordeaux). some of my favorites are:
Justin Isosceles
Franciscian Oakville Magnificat
Deerfield Red Rex
Chateau Beaucastle Cat-Neuf-du-Pape

I also love big bold cabs, but no merlots...

anyone got other suggestions?

    Two Buck Chuck

Seriously though, I enjoy reds but I am too much of a novice to recommend one.

Ditto. Definitely not too picky, but I love a good red wine.

I'm a big wine fan but not hugely interested in keeping a roster, just by sight. I'm big on Merlot and Shiraz. A couple standouts for me are Greg Norman, Rabbits Foot, Ravenswood, Charles Krug and Penfolds. You can often find them at decent prices and they have always been solid for me in the rack.

I've drank all kinds of expensive wine and I think the magic is in the $25 range in my travels. The rest is beyond my level of distinction.

There are dozens of low priced wines that are not too shabby, but at that point you also get into some rough versions. Merlot vs Cabernet...etc. One might be ok, and another horrible.

ok, try lyeth meritage ($13) avalon cabernet ($10) or cline red truck ($10) all nice reds at reasonable prices, if you want to spend more, let me know, i can suggest anywhere from $10 to $200. that's my problem, i love cars, stereo, wine, tv, my job and golf. all very expensive habits!

I love red wine. So many options out there, good and better. The one that I am using as a "daily driver" is Chilean "Frontera", from Concha y Toro. Great Cabernet Sauvignon, Decent Merlot, and around 7-8 bucks for a 1.5 liter bottle.

i've had and must say enjoyed that wine. very reasonably priced (especially at the NH Liquor stores) -
if you like red zins, try to find "Trentadue - old patch red - exceptional especially at aprice of around $13!

My uncle has always been very much a serious wine person. If he knew anything about audio I'd send him over here.

I appreciate a good red with the right meal, but so far I haven't educated myself about the labels as much as I should. Usually the type who gets a recommendation from someone who knows what the hell he's doing.

I have heard rumors that you are ALWAYS supposed to pour wine into a glass and do the swirly thing for best test.....no paper cups or plastic cups or anything like that.....what about drinking it right from the bottle?

I drink wine as I see fit. If it's before a bank robbery, from the bottle....after the bank robbery, from the glass. MUCH after the bank robbery, from a dude named Jorge, Tyrone or Gunter.

Phew, what a relief, thought I was doing something wrong while consuming wine. I don't own any glasses in my apartment, just paper and plastic everything, so I usually drink it from the bottle.

They say that the bottle actually represents the phallic symbol or ****. Keep that in mind when you chug on a merlot next time.

Funny, I think life is too short to get all stuffy about things like wine. If I really enjoy my 12 dollar bottle of "crappy" Merlot, who's gonna tell me I'm wrong?

None. And this thread is about red wine, not sausage, or carrots, or anything else.

Anyone here ever tried Smoking Loon? Cheap wine but does the trick for me and tastes pretty good.

As mentioned above, Kendal Jackson Reserve is good. I also regularly buy Sterling Vinter Pinot Noir, Simi Cab, and Da Vinci Chianti. And when nobody is looking, Vampire Merlot. :D
