I want an 880 but the wife wants the 1000. My question is this. Say I'm playing Madden 2008 on the Xbox 360 and I want to switch the activity to playing a movie on the Toshiba HD-DVD player, will changing activities result in the remote attempting to turn off everything (TV, amp, receiver, 360) in order to switch to the HDDVD player by turning on the TV in the correct mode, powering on the amp, turning on the receiver in the correct mode, and turning on the HD-dvd player?

My experience with the 880 is that it will shut off components that aren't needed for task you asked for. If it is still need to a have an equipment on then it just switch the input, example is if I had was listening to XM radio and then I wanted to see TV it would switch the AVR, Turn on the TV, Turn off the XM radio. Not bad for 2 buttons Activates then TiVo :)

My wife keeps bugging me about the "complexity" of playing music or watching a movie when I'm not around, so I just ordered a Harmony 880. In fact, she even encouraged me to set up a separate 2-channel system in another room to make it easier for her to turn the music on!

Sometimes in life, ya gotta say, --"Damn, damn, damn!!!" If we had the money, I'd be more than happy to set one up for her. But you fellas know what's gonna happen -- as soon as we can afford it, she'll change her mind.

I wouldn't ever own a Harmony. Once you go with a remote that you can actually PROGRAM, and not one that attempts to program itself, you will never look at cheap remotes again. So unless they've changed recently with their programming, you cannot add or alter any sort of delay between remote codes. And they finally got up to speed on RF adapters yet they still haven't figured out what narrow band RF or tuning an RF module means. Plus, when you take a remote and it's programmed correctly, you only need to change something when a piece changes or you add a piece to the rack. And who needs a help button when a remote is programmed right?? I won't even go into the fact they are the highest defect rate of universals...

Yeah, they make excellent remotes (I own the MX-500), but they are much more expensive than most of the Harmony remotes.

    lol...

I guess maybe its a difference of perspective

But I equate universal remotes on the same field as cables

Its pretty nifty and interesting until you spend to much money, and then you're just silly..

but what's the point of a universal remote if it doesn't truly make operating equipment easier? Obviously you don't live with someone who's electronics illiterate. If my fiance, neighbor, mother, anyone can walk into my HT and be able to do anything they want, than my remote is worth it.

When your remote misses a code or the delay isn't long enough or it forgets codes, be sure to hit the help button 5-10 times... sure made things easier huh?

    Honestly --

As long as I hold down the button about 3 seconds and keep the remote still about 10 seconds...

    It does everything right, everytime...

Harmony 880 remote arrived today (Amazon $3.99 overnight delivery:D). So far, I'm very pleased. Works like a charm. My only gripe so far is that the buttons are kinda small.

How often do I have to plug in the charger? Or does she come with batteries and not require the charger?
