The ORIGINAL Original Forum. When?

When did the FIRST Polk Forum come on-line? This new one only credits certain people back to July 01. The one that I joined in Sep 99 already had The Bros. McG aboard, John Strong, Max, and maybe a couple others. Is it possible that a ten year anniversary is approaching? How long was the old forum in existence before I joined?

First I found reference to it was Dec. 11th of 1997. (click on the link for Dec. 11th to see what it looked like.)

Since I did not have a login at that time, I cannot log in to check it out. Would be interesting though. (maybe I could find the first Club Polk wire debate...)

WOW, has it really been 10 years already? I can't remember what the old boards even looked like. I believe when I joined, I used the serial #'s from my Monitor 10B's that I had purchased in 1987.

George Grand, The Bros McG, Madmax, Russ Abernathy and several others are who I can recall.

Before there was an official Flea Market, we were pulling deals. The Carver m1.5t amp I still have today was wheeled and dealed back then. I sold a Carver m1.0t amp to someone also.

Look what it has grown into!

Russ says 10 years this month...so...HAPPY BIRTHDAY Polk Forum!

I remember an announcement on Polk's site stating that Club Polk was in the works and that it was coming soon. I guess it was 10 years ago as my daughter was just a few yrs old and she will be 13 in Feb. Time flies doesn't it?

Anyone remember the system builder page where you could input all kinds of variables such as room, equipment, planned purchases, budget, etc and it would build you a recommended system based on what you told it? I used to love that feature.

I don't post alot as but I have been here almost daily since the beginning and had my data lost in one of the changovers.

I joined sometime in late '99 or early 2000. Can't remember exactly. George, madmax, john strong, rskarvan, Mike and Bob McG, Ron, Wes..,CHRIS... Several others were here when I joined. Seems like I came on board about the same time or just slightly after Troy. The forum was a far cry from what it is today. It used to be unusual to have more than 10 people browsing the forum at one time. I remember that "system builder".

You can't actually log in to those archived forum pages, can you? Doesn't work for me. Or perhaps I've forgotten my login for the "old" forums.

    Happy 10th anniversary, Club Polk!

    Well Happy Birthday Club Polk!

Thanks to all of you old timers that made this place what is today. And for sticking around to give solid advice to folks like me who were looking for information. I've learned a lot from this Forum, made some friends, got some good deals and traveled all the way to Georgia to a house owned by a guy named "Reeltrouble".;)

    Thanks to all!

Is that the original forum? 'Cause I remember signing up for some newsletter and got a notice for a Club Polk thing. I signed up for Club Polk back then but the forums were not yet online. I know I signed up for an account but the place was deader than a doornail so I bailed on it for a while.

Ah well, I guess you should all feel lucky that you weren't plagued with my presence sooner.

I know I signed up way before 2001...back when Russ was a bit more testy. You think Jessie was bad? Go back and hit on some of Russ's exchanges for some real entertainment.Probably why I never posted back then,a few of you guy's scared the crap outta me as a newb. Now they seem like big old teddy bears.Alittle anniversary celebration seems in order some how.My idea is to gather all the founding old members and tie them up to a pole in a parking lot somewhere and throw polk approved whipped cream pies at 'em.Would make a great video at the next fest.

I joined in early 2000, IIRC. George, The Bros. McG, Ron, Russ, Hoosier, skaravan, stubby. Wes (partywaggin'), GZ, Aaron, Joe the Sequal, Darrin, Micah....Snake, yeah they were all here.

Back then the software was the same that Audio Asylum uses...where threads would go on and get squished and hard to follow. Everyone really bitched about the changeover but I think, in retrospect, this is much better.

I still have to give the nod to the snake as being the biggest (and most disturbing) troll we've ever had.

For myself, I didn't post all that much until two things happened. One, I bought a pair of MiniMonitors from Russman so that started us talking and BS'ing. The other, about the same time, was George got a TDY to Charleston and he and his came over to the house for dinner and that was the start of it, pour moi.

Doesn't seem like that long ago, you know?

I also have a question about the old forum....well, just the old websie. There used to be a link to a survey to win free speakers. I KNOW damn well that nobody ever 'won' anything. That **** had to have been rigged.

I'll bet Paul just made up names...yeah, Joe **** from Pigsknuckle, Arkansas or some ****.

Holy sheet. It's been a long time. I don't remember when I joined, not sure how long but I'm guessing late in the 99s or early 2k.

Damn those were some good times.

The survey to win a Polk Sub. HA HA! Yeah, I remember that!

I went digging through my "Archives" (flashy name for a pack rat junk drawer) and found 2 copies of the first issue of the Speaker Specialist. Thats the newsletter Polk was sending out. Issue #1 Winter 1999-2000. I also have issue #3 Summer 2000 & Issue #4 Winter 2000 (missing issue #2).

Issue #3, page 12 has a photo of Polk Paul sitting on a PSW450. Oh you sexy ****! ;)

    Snake was the original Troll.

Scott Trigg was probably the first known Flea Market Thief!

    Great memories!

What's really interesting is when a search on older equipment leads you to old
Polk forum threads. Carver m500t leads you to a buy by George Grand
from a "very bad bad man" who was banned,Wangotango.
Many searches lead back to Polk. Isn't the web wonderfull?
A lot of history here to be found.
