hey guys after a night of watching Troy and 300 (bored before halloween party) the next morning i find that my speakers are playing at low volume..no bass or anything just low volume coming from the tweeter
they are a pair of Polk R30s (a few years old) and i never had any problems with them.
are they blown out? i've never blown out any of the speakers ive ever purchased (had some Sony shelf speakers, pair of infinity floorstanding that i use for my front speakers)
i used these as my front speakers b4 i had the infinities, then turnd these into rear speakers for surround. i duno what happend..maybe someone messed with my volume knob..
i have an onkyo receiver to let yall know.
any ideas, comments? TIA

If you have any other speakers, try them on the channel where the problem is. If the other speaker works correctly then their is something wrong with the Polk's, not the reciever.Monitor 7b's front
Monitor 4's surround
Frankinpolk Center (2 mw6503's with peerless tweeter)
M10's back surround
Hafler-200 driving patio Daytons
Tempest-X 15" DIY sub w/ Rythmik 350A plate amp
Dayton 12" DVC w/ Rythmik 350a plate amp
Harman/Kardon AVR-635
Oppo 981hd
Denon upconvert DVD player
Jennings Research (vintage and rare)

So the problem is in surround? I never heard of blowing a surround speaker, not if used in DD or DTS applications. Check surround level on Onkyo. Check for surround type on Onkyo (Pllx, DSP, etc)Monitor 7b's front

dang i shoulda reread my post. while moving i decided to use my polks for fronts because i left the infinitys at home so ive been using my 2 R30s for the fronts, a small sony center, sony sub, 2 onkyo surrounds. my bad, sorry for not clarifying that
n the listening mode i always use (cuz i dont have a decent dvd player) is the Dolby Pro Logic II Movie Mode
thanks guys! -
You should double check your bass management. Without it can and will damage speakers, of all shapes and sizes.Monitor 7b's front

bass management as in treble and bass on the receiver?
the maximum level for bass n treble are 10 n -10 for each. i had the bass at 4 and treble at 3
the onkyo receiver also asks if the front two speakers are large or small, i select large and the rest are large as well. i guess this allows for more bass to be put through the individual speakers instead of relying solely on the subwoofer. (im guessing)
has any1 had this problem with a speaker? i can hear the sound outta the tweeters, but its not at its max power and without any bass whatsoever..
any other ideas or suggestions? -
do the R30's have jumpers in back where you connect the speaker wires? if they do.. maybe the jumper is loose or gone.. check that out and hopefully the bass will come back on .
(jumpers are the metal plates that goes between the upper and lower speaker connectors)PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
nah the jumpers are fine..i guess my speakers are out
gonna be lookn for some newer floorstanding polks, any suggestions? -
Hello,
You can certainly get replacement tweeters for your speakers. Have you owned them less than five years?
Regards, Ken -
i remember i bought them august of 2003.
however, when i plugged the speakers in to try em out, the tweeters work (a lil bit) but the subs are totally out on each one.
is there a place to repair/replace polk parts?
i would PM you ken, but since i just joined i am unable to send PMs.
thanks for the help guys

Hello,
It sounds as though you are within the five year Polk warranty. If you read the warranty section of the owner's manual it will give you an address in San Diego. All you have to do is remove the damaged parts and send them to Polk with a copy of your sales receipt and they'll send you new ones. No muss no fuss!
Cheers, Jed -
oh dear..i'm gonna have to rummage through my stuff.
i pulld the subs out and i guess theres a date inside of there. it said 08 july 03..is that the manufacturing date or..i duno.
i'm gonna have to go back home and find the receipt. thank you for all the suggestions n assistance
