Take a pill Cody. You weren't even there. I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone, you're all equally wrong, and regardless of why you get busted, you got busted doing something you knew you shouldn't do and should just suck it up. And I'm not a fan of rent-a-cops by any means, but it sounds like you guys are just being paranoid and using faux discrimination to justify your macho trip against authority. If some soccer mom got told to move, they would probably just say sorry and move, because they're not stupid or immature enough to think flipping off the guard adn peeling away will accomplish anything.

My actions would have been completely different had everyone had to move, believe me.

But because I was the only one who got asked to move and being there for the shortest period of time my anger got the best of me and i let the guard have it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Our macho trip against authority, or authority's macho trip against people our age?

If I was the first was in line, and he asked me to move, I would, without a word, without a doubt. If he went back to where he was and didnt ask anyone else to move, there also wouldnt be a doubt that I'd go back to where I was.

Probably both, but sometimes you gotta just roll with it.

I understand your point - I'm barely older than you or Mark - but sometimes it just isn't worth the fight for something so silly.

At least the dudes had jobs and weren't out there living off good folks like you and me. Yeah, they were asswipes, but I'm glad they had jobs and weren't laying around the house collecting foodstamps and adding their genes to the population pool.

    Yeah, I'm from Illinois:p

The movie theater is sort of like this forum. You have a right to be there as long as you obey the rules and the people who have the authority to enforce them. The movie theater company owns the property and they hire the rent-a-cop. They give him the authority to tell people to move and if he tells you to and you don't HE has the authority to remove you with help from the real cops if necessary. If you don't like it...don't go there. Fairness in this case is in the eyes of the enforcer of the rules (ie: the rent-a-cop).

I guess the dude figured a robbery would be easier if he stayed away from the main bank and just went to a branch office.

It looks like the bank's video log caught him as he was leafing the bank.

If he got caught down South, they'll probably put him on a chain saw gang.

Wow talk about paranoia. If that happened to me I would complain and inform them that I'll be doing my banking elsewhere.

I used to be a banker and I was involved in a take over robbery where I had a sawed off shot gun pointed at my face and then to the back of my head while I layed on the floor. There is no such thing as being over paranoid when you are a bank employee. I really thought for a moment it was going to be the end for me.

I am no longer in banking and really have no desire to return. It wasn't a conscious decision but I'm sure somewhere in my psyche it was a factor in leaving banking and not to return.

Quite a while back, I remember a story where a guy went to jail for a long time, I believe for bank robbery. Finally got out and I guess he couldnt take the normal life again. So he went into a bank with a post it note that said "This is a robbery, give me $200, I'll be waiting outside in my car afterward"

Sure enough, they gave him $200 and he went back in his car and patiently awaited the police to arrive to take him back to jail.

Just in case anyone else missed that part for the third time.

More than likely he was telling him to move b/c of his age, and nothing more.

Ding ding! That's a winner! I had a door guy at a club threaten me with "Don't cause any trouble, I'm a soldier" while I was going in to pick up drunks the other night.......Man, that took some self control. :D

The problem is that some of these guys have a slight God complex, and they think somehow that no one will challenge their authority.....Because I would never challenge the authority of a soldier....:p

First off, I would like to say how freaking ridiculous the hat and glasses rule in banks is. If Im going to rob a bank, do you really think Im going to obey the little sign? I would hate to be escorted off the property while Im robbing the place. All it does is inconvenience law abiding citizend. My dad had skin cancer removed from the top of his bald head so there is some definite scarring and naturally he doesnt want to stand in a bank line for 30 minutes with his hat off.

As for the security guards well I was one for many years at a very large mall. Here are some facts about them.

There are 2 types of security guards - those that are lazy and took the job because they dont want to do manual labor (me) and those that are too chicken **** to join the military or police force but want to feel like theyre tough guys by bossing high school kids around. Unfortunately there former are vastly outnumbered by the latter.

Security guards do have a good bit of authority so long as youre on the property theyre guarding. They can detain you if they believe youve stolen from them and if youre violating their policies like parking in a fire lane, they can detain you long enough to issue a tresspass warrant. They can take you, get your picture and if youre caught on that property again, you go to jail for 30 days with pretty much no questions asked. In the case of the fire lane he could also have detained you long enough to call the cops. Then they wouldve come and slapped you with a pretty hefty fine and depending on how bored the cop was, could even tow your car.

They can also carry pepper spray and handcuffs and are legally justified in using REASONABLE force to detain you IF they have sufficient grounds. However, even if theyre armed they CANNOT draw their weapon unless they are backed into a corner and their lives are threatened.

The way to handle the GI Joe wannabes is to just do what they say and let them have their little moment of glory. If you stand up to them, theyll feel they have to defend their pathetic ego and then they can use the little power they have to cause you a bunch of hassles.
