I just can't see how this could possibly be any good. The first one wasn't all that great of an idea (but for some reason very enjoyable). An old guy teaches the underdog to be good and ends up as the hero. Hasn't that been done to death? (wasn't that the same plot as Rocky?).

    Nooooooooooo, don't do it!

The first one was fair at best and for some reason has garnered a little bit of a cult following. What's next, Leave It To Beaver staring Jack Black?

There was already a big-screen version of "Leave It to Beaver".....and it tanked despite the presence of Janine Turner as Mrs. Cleaver.

No...this is going to be terrible no matter how they do it. Karate Kid is a classic...that was one of my favorites when I was a kid...they can't remake it.

What's up with all of these **** remakes coming out of hollywood lately? Movies aren't all about CGI and sound affects. There's something to be said about not messing with something that was already done right. Superman for instance. The original was a classic...one of the best movies ever made in my opinion. The new one...wasn't. Sure, it looked good and sounded great with all of the modern sound codecs and CGI...but the movie itself was terrible IMO.

You guys don't actually think the old KK movies are good do you? I mean, I love them too, but just because they're campy and I was young when they came out. I'm under no delusions that they were good movies. THey're RIDICULOUS.

Just because they're "ridiculous" doesn't make them bad movies. There are tons of people out there that love the Karate Kid...I think that's pretty much what constitutes a good movie. It doesn't matter how corny it is. Sure...it's not the greatest movie every made by any means...it's still a good movie though.

You gu ys are worried about how they're going to "ruin" the franchise. In what way could you possibly ruin this franchise? First, they already made "The Next Karate Kid" with Hillary Swank 15 years ago, so if t hey were going to "ruin" anything it would have already been done.

But come on. THe acting isn't good, so you can't ruin that. The characters are all cartoon parodies of themselves, aside from maybe Daniel. And the stories are absurd. They could fly around on wires like Crouching Tiger and it would be more believable. A 16-year old kid befriending an 80-year old Japanese man? And everyone being OK with it? A psychotic dojo owner who beats up his own students in the parking lot of a KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP for getting in second place? And somehow there are parents on the planet who send their kids to CObra Kai? A man and his war buddy who take months out of their adult lives to terrorize an underage kid just for beating them in said championship?

What is there to ruin aside from the lofty image you built in your head because you first saw the movie when you were 10? Thta's not an insult, I saw it when I was 10 and have a soft spot for it too, but I know it's not good, and I couldn't care less if they remake it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

No it's not, it is "The Karate Kid", and the trailer is out, it looks so horrible I won't even post a link to the trailer. I would not recommend watching it, laughably bad.

Mike, I have to go with LeKeiko on this one. And add that the location shots in Beijing were well chosen and VERY familiar to me--it was almost like being back there. As for the movie itself....predictable and different some from the original. But I'm too old to be a FAN of the original. And I don't really think REMAKES are necessary when there are so many many struggling screenwriters across America. Come on. Give these 'other' boys and girls a chance. There are a LOT of good stories out there HOLLYWOOD!!

I enjoyed this remake, as I do most movies I watch. I don't bother with inconsistencies in the plot or story. I focus on the acting and the action. Just because it's a remake doesn't mean I can't enjoy it as much as the original.
