+1 Mantis. More proof there's no original ideas left in Hollywood, and it's nothing more than a vehicle for Smith's 9 year old son. If it does come to fruition, I hope it tanks.

If ever there was a worse idea than remaking the Karate Kid, this was it. Blech.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

C'mon. I can't think of anything containing more cinematic magic then the scene when Jackie Chan turns Tucker/Daniel-son's catch phrase around on him:

"Can you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?!?!? Wax on, then wax off!"

I dont think they should try to remake movies unless it would be helped by todays special effect technology(superman). I doubt the crane kick would benifit by CGI

Well THERE'S a viewpoint. how do you reconcile that with the fact that the original Richard Donner Superman is a masterpiece and the new one was.... not so much (obviously my opinion, but... still)? Movies are about more than special effects. Sometimes people rewrite crappy movies into good ones, sometimes they rewrite good ones into crappy ones thinking their CGI and technology will save them. And sometimes (like the Karate Kid potential remake) they just want to rehash and old story for money.

See, that kind of thinking is exactly what is wrong with the world.

    We need MORE montages.

    It is kinda like cowbell.

Thats not exactly what I meant & I think the original superman movie is great, but I think some older movies arent done justice with the technology they had at the time such as the original superman movies. Imagine if they tried to make the LOTR trilogy in the late 70's.

    NO!

    This is suck!
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I'm not ready for a remake of anything. What I'm ready for is someone to get creative and create something new for a change instead of rehashing everything from my youth.

I could see Shia LeBoef as the new Daniel-san???

I think they should leave the KK franchise alone...let what happened in the 80's die in the 80's.

I think the original KK was a fine little movie with a simple message. I am almost certain no one expected it to be a huge box-office hit and became a cult favorite. If Will Smith indeed wants to re-do KK, I think he would just destroy the "simple-ness" of the original.

I agree...He might be better off making a movie similar in plot line and feel...but not make it exactly like KK. Ralph Machio (sp?) really makes the movie...Skinny, malnourished, nerdy guy...gets MADE and kicks the local bully's butt, and steals his girl. How many of us tried to do that crane kick afterwards? Classic. A lot of things came together to really make the movie CORNY, but memorable.
