And where might you go with a "dress knife"? This is totally new to me as no one I know around here has anything like that.

Maybe when I'm in my late 30's or something it might be cool. I feel like being 22 if I took a knife out with me somewhere im at high risk for being arrested or have it taken away from me.

I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion Scallion. It's a cool little half serrated edge assisted opener, and I use it daily.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

    I agree...
If ya carry, you`ll eventually use

it`s just a habit to have a knife with me at all times..

It has been a good thing I did a couple of times, but now I`m old and work myself to death...

Like I said , I usually use it to eat with..
    did I mention I`m a fat old man !!

I can only hope I leave this state eventually. There is a reason Taxachusetts has a declining population and I hope to contribute to it....sooner rather than later.

Oh and assisted opener, you mean like a mechanism that helps it flip open quick? I have one of those, great knife....too bad I lost it in my apartment somewhere

I know a lot of people think of carrying a pocket knife as some sort of weapon; if you're using a 2.5 inch blade in any form of self defense, you're screwed. It's just a useful tool to have on you, it in no way makes you more safe from bad guys (arguably makes you less so, since if you pull a tiny knife against someone dangerous, they're bound to do something drastic)./

What about areas where CCW is prohibited, like most college campuses for example? Pepper spray is nice, but it ain't lethal and a small part of the population is nearly immune from pepper spray's effects. Or what about an attack that is so close to you that you can't draw a pistol? I could go on and on, but basically if attacked by a knife or if used in self-defense, they are considered to be lethal force weapons by law.

The experts I've had the pleasure of training with are better armed with a couple of 3 inch folders than the vast majority of the population would be with a pistol or rifle. YMMV....

IMO, Benchmade is the best! The absolute cadillac of knives, but you will pay for them.

I have a couple of my own, mostly free from the military. Just a couple tanto blade auto-strykers.:)

I was merely pointing out that most of us who carry pocket knives do not do it for protection, but for the usefulness of having it as a tool. While I'm sure some well-trained individuals could use it as an effective self-defense mechanism, most people would end up hurting themselves.

How much does an avg knife cost to get sharpened? I guess a combination edge would cost more..

The reason I ask is that spyderco will sharpen them free for as long as you own it. However, you have to pay shipping to and from spyderco.

That's why I like pepper spray, it's a less than lethal alternative. For people who live in Cali or the northeast, someone has to do something pretty terrible for you to be able to draw a weapon on them.
Plus there's less of a chance of someone suing you opposed to using a knife or other deadly weapon.

a nice shiny scabbard. I have this 3" Buck with a very nicely polished handle and nice black leather scabbard. It has a razor edge and almost pretty blade curvature.

I normally have a Leatherman Wave on the belt. It has two different style blades and I use it constantly.
