You know, this politically correct, let's be sensitive to everyone fad has just gone a little too far in my opinion. It's one thing to call people names based on race, creed, color, sex (and I mean male or female) and other things that are beyond their control, i.e. how you were brought into this world. I really don't understand how it applies to people who make unpopular, unusual or unorthodox personal choices, whether it be body piercing and tattooing, green and purple hair, wearing you pants down to your knees, wearing bizarre clothing, cross-dressing, having relationships with dolls, whatever....there's a million things. And I agree nobody should be discriminated against or beat up because of it. Also, I don't think we need to call people names to there face. But in a public forum, an offhand remark (such as fruitcake) about someone else outside of that forum should not be taken offensively. That's how millions of people feel about those of that persuasion. I have tattoos. If someone in a forum said they thought anyone who would do that is a freak I would not be upset. Why?.....because I made the choice to do it knowing that most people think it is foolish or freakish. I don't care what people think. That's the way it should be. If I am going to make an unpopular choice knowing full well that most other people are not going to like it or understand it, then I am going to suck it up like a man. Why?...because I obviously didn't give a damn what they thought when I made the choice. If I walk by and someone says "Oh my god...what an idiot" I'm certainly not going to whine or cry about it.

I couldn't agree more as long as you suck it up and respect her right to press this issue until she gets an apology or whatever will make her happy. I'm not saying you have to agree with her or publicly support her. In fact you can call her any name you want but don't attack or call someone names here because they happen to voice support for her.

Funny thing is, I saw the interview on the Today show she did with Matt Lauer wearing the same outfit she wore on the plane to show that it wasn't all that bad. They were talking to her just to get the details about the whole incident and then asked her to stand up so everyone could see exactly what she was wearing, the top, skirt, all at once so they could decide if it was inappropriate. Apparently it was a little too revealing though because when she sat back down, they had a very obvious blur between her legs from just about the instant she started to bend her legs until she sat down and crossed her legs. I guess NBC didn't think what she was wearing was appropriate enough to not blur it out like they would actual nudity.

Understand this, I am not supporting Southwest, love the company, but I think this was a little stupid on their part.

This was more the ironic situation of going on national television to plead your case about how your clothing was not inappropriate only to get censored on national television because your clothing was not appropriate.

Did you see anyone crying or whining? You're welcome to your uninformed opinion that everyone who's **** chose to be so and that all **** want to be in skirts and I see you have no problem living with that misinformation. Fortunately, not everyone lives with a 1952 mentality and most know better....

It makes no sense to throw out the fruitcake comment because it has absolutely nothing to do with anything involving the case involving this girl. Even if the flight attendant was ****, his 'gayness' didn't cause him to complain. What if the FA was black.....did his blackness cause him to complain? (i'm almost afraid to ask you that)

It's not politically correctness that you're upset about....it's that someone objects to overt stupidity in making comments that you'd expect out of a MAYBE middle grade kid.

At least be clear what you have a problem with............

It's not 'lack of logical thought', it's called the other side of the coin. Or one side of the coin anyway. Same as religion....everyone's got their own views and everyone thinks they are right and everyone else is stupid. I think you are wrong, you think I am wrong and there are probably millions of others that think we are both wrong. The world would be a much more peaceful place if everyone realized this and just got over it instead of trying to 'change' everyone to their opinion.

No, its still a fruitcake. A nutcake doesn't have any fruit in it. A fruitcake with nuts has fruit and nuts.

    From MS Encarta Dictionary
    fruit·cake [ frt kàyk ] (plural fruit·cakes)

    noun

    Definition:

    1. cake with dried fruit in it: a dense cake containing dried fruit such as raisins, currants, and sultanas

    2. somebody irrational: an offensive term for somebody considered to be irrational or out of touch with reality ( insult )

Brett you took immediately assumed the term was used to describe ****. I don't see anything in that definition that says anything about ****. I have used the terms for years in exactly the way the "insult" is defined.

The synonyms are "crackpot, nut case, screwball, crank, nut". Again nothing about ****.

Are you sure this was not a bit of **** "blinders" on your part? When I read the comment I didn't think "****". Whether the poster did or not..no one but the poster knows. I think this is a little of what dragon1952 is referring to. It seems like everything is somehow taken as offensive to someone.

Not that I care either way, but why would someone in their right mind CHOOSE to be ****?

yes sign me up for a lifestyle where most people don't approve of what I do in the privacy of my own home...I will also have in the back of my mind that I might get my **** beat by some redneck/skinhead if I am walking together with my partner in public

I also can't get married and enjoy the legal benefits.

I'm sure there are many more reasons to NOT want to be ****, but I am just posting quickly..

So Brett, why did you choose to be ****?:D

Christ, I'm not bashing ****, I'm bashing being oversensitive about the term fruitcake. Good Grief.
And no, I do not believe it's a choice to be **** in most cases. But there was a 'choice' , as a group, to come out of the closet. And in many cases, almost flaunt it. Once you come out of the closet you are choosing to take what comes with that decision. And if that means being referred to by some as a fruitcake, oh well, don't whine about it. I don't care if anyone is ****..... or anything else. Just don't be a whiner if someone else doesn't necessarily embrace it!

Aside from the actual food, I've never heard anyone refer to a person as a fruitcake that wasn't making commentary on someone being ****. Maybe I've just missed all of those conversations that exist where someone calls someone a fruitcake because they opted not to say 'irrational'.........
