What receiver is good for..

What receiver is good for the Polk RTI10's? My budget is $200-$400, and been looking on eBay for a good reliable receiver to power these babies up. I want to try and get the most out of these speakers with clean power and clear sound. So if anyone can help me find a receiver to these speakers, that'd be great! (eBay). Also, for this receiver, I plan on plugging in my TV, XBOX (Movies and Games), and the PolkRTI10's.

I found one..is this one good?

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=rx-v2400&category0=

Thanks!!!

    Hi
    That Yamaha is very nice. It sounded ok at the local hi-fi store.

    I'd also consider one of the (used) following (based on the research I made before buying my RTi10s, and considering your budget)

    Denon >= 38XX
    Marantz >= 5XXX
    HK >= 3XX
    Onkyo >= 6XX

    I, also was on a tight budget, so I bought an Onkyo 604.
    After a few month I added a used 2 channel amp (Onkyo Integra A9711) to beef up the fronts.

    good luck, and welcome to CP.

    Thanks for the welcome! Do you think that Yahama will be good for me? I mean it's a starter kit for me. I'm on a tight budget after buying the RTI10's now. I'm a noob when it comes to receivers or anything about electronics, my interest in the past month has driven me to buy the Polks. I'll take a look around for the receivers you listed, but the Yahama is just "ok." Will it bring out the best..or somewhat the best out of my speakers?

    The phrase "bring out the best" might lead you yo some heavy spending ... some of the folks here will tell you that anything less then a tube power amp, and a tube preamp is a crime. then again, they're nuts (all said in good spirit of course ;)).

    That Yamaha you linked (Rx v2400) is pretty cool as a starter kit, and even a little further. sound wise you'll be set, then only thing is that it is a little obsolete on the electronics department. no DTS, no PL II,
    its not very future proof either because there is no DTS or HDMI.

    However, its more then ok to get you going. you'll enjoy Dolby Digital movies, very much.

    Personally I found I wouldn't mind throwing some more power at my 10s, so I bought a nice used power, which I connect to the preouts on my AVR. I say start small, and once you feel you better know what you are after, join the upgrade squad.

    Welcome to the club!

    I don't want to sound like I'm crappin on your choices...but many say that yammi and rti are like oil and water.
    The other issue is that any stand alone receiver in this price range is not going to "bring out the best" in your 10's. For that you need external amplification.

    hmm...while I thank you again for the welcome! I guess I over-exaggerated on the bring out the best. I'm putting these in a 11' by 17' foot room. I just want them to sound GOOD. Not no crappy quality. Will the Yahama do it for me though?

    And as for
    no DTS, no PL II,
    its not very future proof either because there is no DTS or HDMI.

    I'm not really sure what that is...

    And yes, in the future after I graduate college, I will upgrade.

    Thanks for all your help!

    FWIW, I ran my 8s on a yammie, thank god that didn't last long! I then purchased a HK 335 and an outlaw mono along with 2 marantz MM700 monos as well. Now they sound good. My Ht room is 13ft couch-tv and 23 ft long. I say buy something with preouts and is as cheap as possible and by some amps.

    Yamaha's tend to be bright and RTi's are bright speakers. Thats too much "bright". Go for a warmer sounding brand (HK,Denon and many others) and stay used with your budjet.

    Denon's & HK's seem to be good matches for the RTI's. Try to get one with preamp outputs to make upgrading easier in the future.

    For the Denon's look for used 3802, 3803, 3805, series.

    My brother scored a killer deal on a 3803 a month or so ago on ebay.

    Good luck.

    I also got the HK AVR335 from Harman Direct off ebay. Great receiver and has the extras to get you by for a couple years. I paid $225 shipped and you could take the extra cash and try to get a decent 2 channel amp for the fronts.

    Grr!!! Too many options. I really don't know what to look for in a receiver. Can't someone just pick something out for me lol? I looked at some of the Denon's. Pretty expensive.

    Check out HK. The prices are lower then Denon and they are very popular on here. I'm not crazy about the build quality but I had a bad experience.

    DTS is an advanced 5 channel movie soundtrack format.

    HDMI, is the interface (actually there are different versions of it already)
    for Hi Definition content. Audio and Video.

    Check out a home theater glossary , it will help you better understand the specs of the AVRs you find on ebay.

    There are several threads about your exact question and from waht I was able to gather Yammy's tend to be bright and so do the RTi series.

    HK and Denon would be your best bet.

    Good luck

    I've narrowed my choices to Denon and HK then. Thank you so much for gathering and researching this for me, I'm a huge noob :(.

    But I think the Denon 3802 and 3803 are my choices

    Will they work well with my rti10's?

    yes it will, its a good choice for your budget, and not just for your budget. Denon makes fine AVRs. a mint one will serve you many years.

    It's a good receiver with preouts. However, again many people have found the combo of Yammies & RTI's way too bright/harsh with the tweeter. It would probably give me a headache within an hour.

    Solid what did you replace the Yammie with?

    $250 for that receiver is an insane deal, but i also heard bad things about yammie and the rti series. i have an HK 445 and i really like it. when i was looking at a receiver for my rti10's about a month ago, i got alot of people saying to go with HK - i was going to get a 340, but the 445 went on sale at vanns with free shipping so i jumped on it. keep an eye on Harman Direct (http://stores.ebay.com/Harman-Audio)- they sell HK refurbs with FULL factory warranty and you can find AMAZING deals there. the 340 doesn't have HDMI but it does have pre-outs so you can add a separate amp later down the line. that would be an excellent receiver for you

    I may be biased, but my RTi8s, 6s, 4s and Fxi3s ran beautifully on that system. It had the balls to really get that system pumping. In terms of brightness . . . well maybe, but I saw it more as sound that took me by the balls and let me know who was boss. I rarely had listening fatigue after a couple hours of use.

    I replaced my Yammie with a Rogue Tube Audio Preamp, PS Audio Trio DAC and PS Audio Trio A-100. This was quite step up. I also sold my Rtis for Lsi15s, Totem Rainmakers, Totem Arros and Totem Hawks.
