Again, I wouldn't have a problem with it. However, it's they SAME thing you had a **** fit against Circuit City. They opted to go with cash on the barrelhead. So did you. For the record, I don't think he was being intentionally shady...I just find it ironic. I also think that he handled ensuing melee poorly. I mean, ok, let the crowd make thier comments...but, then to go start another thread practically begging for acrimony? Pfffffffffft.

I don't want to stick my head in the middle of piXXing match, especially since I've only bought and sold a few things here, but I really must take issue with the thrashing going on...from both sides.
I am unsure that "let me talk to them tomorrow and I'll get back to you" constitutes a firm offer to buy...or any sort of committment whatsoever. I am sorry Willow, but you are correct in that showing interest doesn't account for much. It's not like you said "I'm pretty sure I'll take it, but give me 24 hours to make sure." I've shown interest in quite a few things in my life and never completed the sale. Does that mean the potential seller owed me anything? And to start with the profanities is really rather uncalled for in this situation. And for Ben to respond with more vitriol does nothing to advance the cause...it just further flames the fire.
I've been a member of this forum for 6 years and spend more time lurking than posting. I've witnessed people getting scalded for small lapses in etiquette as well as berated for blatant nonsense. This particular situation, however, demonstrates no intention of malice by any party with the exception of how they responded to the outcome. Everyone needs to untwist the panties and move on.

I've mostly been trying to avoid this but.............I tried to buy a set of speaks here and in negotiations it got sold somewhere else because I wasn't clear on a time frame. Oh well, I snoozed, I lost. No biggie, I was happy he could sell them. I've also tried to sell something and had dibs called but never heard back from them. I believe there is an etiquette, and it should be followed.
#1 everyone should be totally clear. But, we also need to be able to understand if someone makes a mistake. The point is, there was a miscommunication and it went wrong. LIFE GOES ON. This thread has gone on way too long. I've talked to Ben a few times and thought that he was a good person. Never met Willow but I bet I'll think the same thing.
If the two of them are cool, that's all that matters and the rest is just going overboard. I've been on both sides and I feel no ill will for either in my case. I think we all need to take a step back and chill. This is so counter to why I come to this forum and enjoy it.

It's hypocritical. As far as perpetuating it....Ben had to start another thread to keep it alive. So, not only is he a hypocrite, he's egging it on. Had he shown a bit of class and sincerity, it wouldn't have been a big deal but he has chosen not to do so.

Of course then there is the obligatory denial and shifting of feet...all of which is distasteful. I mean, come on, if anyone is so desparate for 2 C-notes that they don't have time to fire off an email.....you probably shouldn't be buying gear in the first place.

Again, the FM is a different animal and as such we take it seriously in order to avoid the situations that are being described.

"What my intentions were with the listing of my HK was to pass on a good deal on to a fellow Polkie. I made 3 mistakes.

All this for a 200.00 AVR, let it die and play nice. I've seen this happen a bunch of times, let me check with my co-worker or my brother, hold the item and my brother or co-worker doesn't want it. All sales fall through. Maybe Ben didn't handle it right but for 200.00 somebody should have just brought and been done with it. Not taking sides just expressing an opinion which is not for sale!!!
