My 360 died

I was powered up for 2 minutes browsing the marketplace when it froze and a red checkered pattern appeared. Tried to reboot, and got the red flashing rings of death. Anyone else have this experience? I believe I got an e-mail saying that MS extended everyone's warranty for an extra year (hopefully). If so, do they offer an advanced exchange program?

Contact MS. They need the serial number. Once validated, they'll ship you an RMA box. Just send it back using the RMA box and wait for a new one.
Warranty was extended from 3 months to 12 months I believe.

Good luck! -
Good luck with their customer service, it has to be one of the worst I have ever dealt with. If youre into cool mods I would send it to LLama, let them fix it and mod it for a cheap price at the same time. Im never sending jack ish back to MS XBOX. I'm not the only one either, do a search on the xbox360 forum. Its been since November that I sent mine in and still dont have it back, the very topic of the customer service there makes me rage. Good luck, with yours though. I have to step out of the office, I need to breathe now.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

November?! Sheesh. My cousin got his back after 3 weeks. He must have gotten lucky.
Sadly, his 360 was a bd gift from me. -
Despite the rumors that MS would still honor fixing the first batch of 360's even after the extended year warranty, when I called tech support he told me they could fix it for a flat rate of $139.00...no free fix. I guess it's not too terrible, but still an expense none-the-less. I might look into having it modded. Thanks for the suggestion Sherardp.

Thats crazy, I would definitely send it to LLama for that, more than likely you may have dust, or something small going on in there, cold solder joint perhaps. Gamestop may have a refurbed unit, so you may wanna check that out. But I would not let it go to waste, I would send it in for a sick mod.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

That's why one of the few thing I got extended warranty thru SAM'S Club. Replace 1 for me already. Only down long enough to get to SAM'S.
Good Luck and sorry to hear,

Mine broke last week. I called them that day and 3 business days later I receive a package to put my xbox in to send it back to them. I dropped it off at UPS last night, so hopefully I'll have it back in a week or two. I was told it can take up to 5 business days for them to repair it, 3 days travel time there, 3 days travel time back. I didn't have to pay for a thing either."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." mine broke about 3 months ago and when I called they told me to send it ups wich I did next day and I had a new ( refurbished ) system a week and a half later.

If only my luck was half as good. I cant live without my 360, I game every day after work, followed by an HD movie of some sort. I cant stay away from Gears of War or Call of Duty.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Mine is officially bite the dust for sure, with the 3 blinking red lights. The error code is 0110 which indicates Memory Overheating. I noticed a slew of 3 Red Rings death in the past month or so, mostly from the 1st generation pre 12/31/05 built. Suspicious flux of failures, hmmmmmm, planned obsolescence?
My option is send it to MS for $139 + or wait for Elite next week, or completely give 360 and go for PS3, any one care to chime in?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Stay with 360. I say get an Elite.
-
I went to BB to check out the process of getting the Elite. As it turned out, they are going to follow the same process as giving vouchers to the all-nighters, this weekend.
eff' that. I'll wait until the supply is abundantly available, if and only if I still feel the need. In the mean time, I have called and paid MS to send the box and start the process of fixing it. I think it makes perfect sense to fix it, otherwise I have a 15 lbs paper weight.
Btw, while at BB, I noticed someone bought a PS3, apparently the supply is aplenty, unlike Wii and or (will be) Elite. hmm....why is that? MS marketing savviness or Sony's inability to create demand? (rhetorical, no need to answer...)
Yes, I am sitting tight on the 360 camp for the time being. May be later, when BR becomes a clear winner, if it even possible to declare a win/lose case.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Maybe the PS3's are not "in demand" because their not breaking. LOL
HomeTheater mag just named PS3 product of the year. As for Blu-Ray, wasn't it suppose to be totally obsolete already!
Its your call, either way Bill Gates should break 100 billion this year. No really!
I really having fun with Wii sports and "wireless" Guitar Hero 1 and 2. Just good stuff................. ohhh and no red lights'o'death.:D -
Holy ****, could you fit anymore fanboy crap into one post?

What are you talking about, the Nintendo or PlayStation? Why not look into other game systems. An expensive system thats known for breaking, worth another risk for another $400 bucks. Thats a tough question. -
Just makes you want to run out and buy one of those suckers doesn't it!Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

We sent one of ours back and got it back in 3 weeks. It was dead out of the box.
No charge and MS did extend the warranty.
....like the looks of the PS3, though.Sal Palooza -
Shipped it UPS last Thursday, received a email from MS last night that it arrived, and just received an email from MS again stating that it's already on it's way back to me! That's some impressive customer service. I guess they have people working around the clock. I guess I can unhook my HDDVD drive from my computer now."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. hmmm..I still don't think the PS3 will out sell the 360 at this point...broken 360's or not..especially in the US..Pioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub -

krabby5, dont feed the Fan Boy animals (scottvamp in this case). They are on a special diet and responding to their comments will only make them worse. -
I've managed to keep mine going since December. But I baby it and make sure it's always well ventilated. Still, I'm getting the occasional can't read disk error on very clean disks. It hasn't been more than a minor annoyance so far as I can save my games quite often in oblivion. But wouldn't want to lose progress on a game like GOW with checkpoints.
Has anyone else had this problem and sent it in to MS for repair? Is it something fixable? I'd hate to send it in if it's just something that happens every now and then with 360s. I remember the original xbox doing the same thing. -
Mine will sometimes error at startup, but I just turn it off and back on and its ok. Its not worth it to me, to send it off.
-
Thanks, that's what I was thinking. When it happens, I just eject the disk and put it back in and it clears up. Like I said, it's just an annoyance at this point, and I didn't want to get something back with an even bigger problem if this is common. I think I'll just keep saving games regularly.
-
I get the disc read error somewhat frequently too. Fortunately, most games I play use autosave, so its rarely a big deal.

Thats ok to you.

My second.
No, its not a big deal. The last system I had that worked flawlessly was the Gameboy (original). I'm used to playing buggy PC games that just crash. So, I'm okay with the occaisonal read error.
