This could be a nice music setup for someone in the Chicago/Indy/Milw/ Grand Rapids MI area for not too much cash....with a little negotiation (and driving!) maybe under $2K? Just not in the cards right now for myself.

    Musical Fidelity A3.2 Integrated - $650
    https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/ele/d/audiophile-musical-fidelity/6284705885.html

    Chord Mojo DAC - $325
    https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ele/d/chord-mojo-portable-dac/6236800487.html
(Many use it for home and save over using the Hugo. Could combine with a simple player like a Chomecast, Airport Express, etc.)

Sonus Faber Concertino Domus bookshelf & original stands - $750

    SVS SB12 NSD subwoofer - $300

Just met a guy that can rebuild the ribbons thats in Michigan. NO IDEA as to cost, but he said that he can do it.

There's another in NC that can do it as well and @trav0810 has a set of Amazings that he rebuilt with the new material (which Bob Carver saw, heard, and signed off on).

The ribbon material the guy in MI uses is 2x more expensive than before, so its still not CHEAP, but that means they can live on if you spend the cash.

The woofers are still out there too.

Nice to know Dan. My opinion is they are still a little pricey. I seen a thread some years back where they used Infinity woofers. That was a different set of amazings but sometimes stuff transfers. They need lots of room to breath for sure. Stuff like this can get expensive quick.

Didn't even look at the price on them. Just generalize comment on the availability of the ribbon material. The surrounds aren't that bad to replace outright. I believe there are some folks making them still to this day and they are drop in replacements.

The buy in cost could be high, unless you get a set at a super refurb price, really want them bad and cost and space isnt an issue.

Its not a speaker for everyone at all, but at least you can get the ribbons repaired.....

  • Forgive me for the post but I have to ask. In thumbing through this thread I've seen favorable talk about some NAD and Rotel pieces. In particular a Rotel RB-1080 amp for $700 which looked familiar but seemed too high priced. I keep a Rotel amp around for a backup amp and RB-1080 looked very familiar so I had to find it and check. Close, but it's an RB-1070 instead. Does it actually have some value too? I've had it for many moons and don't remember what I paid for it but might have to put it on the market to turn into cash to help pay medical bills that have piled up this past year. Thanks!

That's not a steal, but it's not absolutely terrible. Plats are the top of the line Amazings, in mint condition, they can bring $1500. Around $1000 would be more appropriate.

That's for the AL III's that is the single woofer. This particular pair uses 4 woofers in each speaker, but they don't use the "infinity mod".

Yes, they certainly need a lot of room to breathe, and this particular model needs a lot of power as well.

Those aren't platinums... those are the silvers. They have three drivers and not four if you look closely at the picture. They are way overpriced.

The rb1070 goes for around 300 bucks so I wouldn't make any retirement plans just yet. Medical bills, no. First aid, yes.

That's about 3 times what I paid for it so it's going on my To-B-Sold list. Most of the list are going to be at a loss items so anything I can make a little money on is going to be welcomed. My wife has been paying a little here and there but hardly making a dent. Some of these fools are demanding crazy charges like $32k for a 12 mile chopper ride from one hospital to another because the first hospital's cardiac team was busy. Sat at the second hospital for over an hour before a doctor came in. There was no need for the chopper to save a few minutes and they didn't give us a choice. The chopper was already there dumping someone off so they just threw me in and sent me on the way. Insurance paid them $12k so the $20k balance is on my head. That's just one of 20 similar bills we have to do something about in my forced retirement.

Then they are certainly overpriced. The listing said Platinums, I didn't even look at them in size comparison to the TV stand. Yes, Silvers shouldn't be anywhere near $1500.

Wow! Sounds like you're in deep. Sorry to hear that. Hope you got your health in check, that's priority number 1.

Yup. It piled on fast. 6 months later two parts they installed failed and another round of bills added on. No warranty. When it happens again I'm not saying anything to anyone. Then she can collect insurance money instead of adding to the debt.

BTW....AFLAC is great so long as you aren't self employed. Don't piss off the premiums if you are.

Guessing 85% doesn't translate to audio for the tubes. Nice stash depot though.
  • RE: Platinums/Silvers needing power. Don't they require an amp with real guts that can operate down around 2 ohms comfortably ?

The Silvers do dip, but an amp like a Sunfire 300/2 would be plenty of amp to control them.

Should be able to flip for $-29 profit.

I can't tell from the picture, do they include spikes? I bet if you plug the ends you can load them with sand or lead shot.

3rd photo in the ad shows plugs and spikes.

Well look at the speaker series they reference on the box. Those things are OLD .

I concur I dont remember them either, but I got into the Polk game starting with the Monitor 60/T90e line which is pretty new compared to the other lines.....
