So, I take that you are happy with it? I've read mixed reviews on the USB support.... How has not worked for you? Wondering how good this would sound compared to something like the DragonFly for USB?

I have not yet used USB. I have a REALLY NICE Coaxial Cable by Black Cat (their Veloce cable) that I have been using. I prefer coaxial as the sample rate you can send is higher over coaxial than USB.

But yes, I heard one at Jeff's house (IndyHawg) after helping him acquire it and I LOVE IT. Spent 4 months tracking one down and bought one off mrbiron on the forum here. Love every minute of it.

I blew through the Meridian Explorer, Audio GD-NFB 5 and this DAC was better than all of them by far.

But again I haven't gone USB yet, I prefer coaxial and may stay with that for now.

For 150 you cant beat it. Its 50 more than the Dragonfly, which is only 1 input whereas this has 4. In addition you have both unbalance and balanced outputs which again is rare. Add in the upsampling....

Your basically beating him up on price already as they were 500 when new and the dragonfly was only 200 when new.

Thanks man...I'm still in the planning stages of my digital transformation. Ultimately I want an Oppo 105 with a HD connected USB and will be done....but that will not happen soon. So.... until that time comes, something like the DACMagic might be a great way to start. I guess a HD connected via USB is out so I guess a PC with a sound card with optical such as you have would be the way to go. I may have to think about this one.

Yes, you couldnt connect a Hard drive via USB to this and have it work. A computer (laptop, desktop) needs to be between the 2 items for it to work.

Honestly if I were you pick it up, its a steal at that price w/ not much possible loss for you. If you dont like it, resell it at no loss. You could use it via USB, Optical, Coaxial or whatever is easiest.

Those things look like crap and I dont believe a word he said about them costing 1k..... those look DIY or pure Walmart bought blankets, etc.... buck of crock IMHO. The others also look DIY, but at least look decent, if overpriced..

I have to agree...its only about $20 each to make them yourself with new, clean fabric. But, not every one is the DIY type.

I agree, the wood does look like maple. These might have originated as concept design prototypes.
