Best Anti-Virus Software?

It's time to buy another Anti-Virus program and I don't know what we should get.
We used to use Norton and then McAffee, but most recently we were using Grisoft's free AVG program.
What should we look at? I've heard Norton & McAffee are resource hogs. All our computers access the internet through a wireless router, if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

+1 on this one
I get most software for next to nothing, and I choose AVG free.
Norton and McCrappy are resource hogs, and are the 2 largest AV companies in the US. If you are writing viruses you are doing it to be malicious. So you want to take out the largest AV software out there to make your virus effective. Hence Norton and McCrappy suck, and did I mention they are resource hogs?

Avast! Anti-virus is another good FREE option. (Free for home users anyway)For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I've been using PC-cillin Antivirus. . . great stuff, you don't know it running and it updates serveral times a days and it DOES NOT use your memory therefore has no affect on the performance of your PC.

I've got a gig of ram on mine and I use Norton's with no problems.>

I use the freebie stuff from AOL. Works great (or, good enough).

AOL? They're still around?

I love customers that rely on AOL security products. It gives me plenty of repair work. Not trying to pick on you here, but AOL sucks from just about every angle.Please. Well, I just upgraded to the new version of AVG free. Guess I'll be sticking with it.
The reason I was looking for something else is because Mom said she tried upgrading to the new version but couldn't get it to work. I guess I'll take a look at her computer.
Thanks for all the opinions!George Grand wrote: »

AVG, Avast, or CA's Etrust Antivirus are all good. You can get them all for free, although Etrust Antivirus is harder to find in its free version...found here.
The only downside to Etrust free version is that it doesn't detect spyware. It's antivirus only. -

The free SpyCatcher Express by Tenebril is the best I've used so far. I removed my McAfee a long time ago and have had no problems. (It does both spyware and viruses and has some great extras built-in)
-
I run Avast and AVG in tandem on mine, never have a problem. I know several 'leet' hackers and they've all recommended those two, they all also suggested running more than one.
and FYI Hearingimpared, 1024 ram is a gig of ram, same thing i've got actuallyMacLeod: I guess youre lucky Polk has such lax hiring standards.

Hmm. I'm looking up SpyCatche Express. Maybe I'll run two, also.George Grand wrote: »

Thanks didn't realize that. How come only about 3/4 of that ram actually shows as active . -
If you have a mainstream desktop (Compaq, HP, Dell, Sony, E-Machines...wait, you have an E-Machines, don't you), then the RAM is probably shared RAM, meaning the computer's onboard graphics card probably uses a certain amount of the RAM for graphics, leaving the rest of it to be used as RAM for other things.George Grand wrote: »

Thanks, but drat! I hate when that happens. -
Yeah. My desktop is using part of the RAM for graphics. So is my laptop. Kinda stinks. Just means we have crappy computers.
Maybe it's time to upgrade!
