Well, the SKU is out for May 1st.

http://www.hdgamenews.com/2007/02/retailers-confirm-new-xbox-360-model-on.html

HDMI capable, 120 GB HDD, doesn't seem to have an HD-DVD drive.

At almost $500, I'm not really sure why they would want to release this model. Since it isn't cheap, they will obviously keep at least the premium system around. So now they'll have two incompatible versions around? What the heck are they gonna use the HDMI for if they don't include the HD-DVD drive with the console? Are they going to just optimize the add-on for it?

My guess is that games will still have to be produced to run without HDMI and 1080p. Some games may decide to use it, but it will depend on the installed base of the new console.

And without out of the box HD-DVD support, the 360 just became a very expensive option for those wanting 1080p hdmi enabled HD-DVD. I hope they solved their audio playback issues or this is going to be a non-starter.

I also wonder what version of HDMI they went with...

Also interesting they went with the same color as the ps3...

I guess I'll have to wait another year or two to get the 360, damnit!!

Does anyone remember a price of a console going up in price?

I just hope they still sell the original with no HD-dvd and drop the price...

I'm going to buy it, simply because it's black. Now, if they could only release a black Wii, I'd be set!

Yes, at the same time the ps3 will try to drop its price, the 360 will be raising its price on its top of the line system, with arguably a weaker feature set. Very odd.

You can, after all, just drop in any 'ol generic laptop drive in the ps3 and get as much or even more storage than the 360. I fully expect the proprietary 360 hard drive to be an over priced upgrade for current owners, if it is offered as such...

Its not the slighest bit interesting they went with the same color as the PS3. Its black. Besides gray or bright **** Xbox green, they really had not other option for a color. Now if the PS3 was released in fuschia and then this new 360 followed suit, you'd be onto something.

Anyways, I'll buy it. I would love for the added storage and the HDMI. I believe it should be able to support games in 1080p. I prefer the console black, but I think I'll stick with my white controllers.

I'm hoping its going to be quieter, but, now that I have my 360 inside my entertainment center, I can't hear it anymore.

I hardly give a flying whoop about color.........and 120 gigs? sheesh, I havent even used a gig on mine yet. I dont have a TV that takes HDMI (my rear projector LCD was produced months before HDMI came on the scene :( ).

I hook it up through the VGA input, put it on the highest resolution that displays. I dont know if it is 780i or 1080', and dont care. it looks like it kicks **** either way. I'll save the 5 franklins for now, but the thing will probably move units.

120gb is nothing for those downloading movies, shows and ripping music to their drives. Some of the multiplayer map packs too take up several megs.

I have one with the 20 gig and am mad at Microsoft for this, because their plan was purposfuly shortsighted and yet, since the consumer is short sighted, it worked. 20 gigs was never going to be enough for downloading HD movies (I can't download ANY hd movies simply because of map packs I have downloaded). 20 gigs was a joke, but it made the console affordable compared to the PS3.

you do know that you could always use a larger HD? It doesn't have to be the Microsoft ones..

I have tried to hook up MyBook, which has 250gb, and it works perfectly..

You can save save games and profiles and all that jazz to your MyBook? I know you can put pictures on other storage and connect it, but I thought music and game files had to be on MS drives.

can't download movies via live on any hard drive except for the xbox one. your mybook won't do it. you can play songs on it through the 360 and pics and even video, but useless for xbox live.

I am mad at myself for not being as patient as I should have......I knew this was going to happen and yet I dove in anyway.

I for one would want the black. I have never been impressed with the white finish....

And I would assume they'll be selling the larger HD separately, but then I'd feel ripped for having a spare 20gb that doesn't function with anything else....

Well, there are millions of other people that have the 20 (edit: ok, let's just say a lot less than 20 free) GB HDD. It was supposed to be the premium system after all. I certainly wouldn't get another 360 just to get hdmi and a larger drive. Component and 720p works great for games.

Just from the responses here, this decision to develop another console in less than 2 years seems to have the potential to sow confusion and ill feelings among the faithful.

Maybe MS should just pull this thing, put out a cheap hard drive, and drive the price of the 360 down near the wii. I just don't see this effort to add on features bit by half-a$$ed bit that the ps3 already has as being successful in competing at the high end...

Seems if you want to spend $500 to watch high-def movies, why not just get the ps3 and netflix. Doesn't make sense to buy a 360 EACH YEAR after release...

I guess next year's model will actually include an HD-DVD drive. So we can all have three versions sitting around...maybe for spare parts...of course by then it could be a Blu-ray...lol.

I suppose that makes sense...copyright reasons..

I'm guessing that us early adoptors will still be able to buy the 120 gb drive seperately...at an inflated price, of course...you can probably get 120gb hardrives now for $40...MS will probably charge $99

I actually like the black with chrome accents. Makes it look like it plugs into the Batmobile or something. If I had the choice, I would have preferred it over my white one. But really, all it would need is to change the color of the LEDs to blue and it could be mistaken for a ps3 accessory.

How about gunmetal grey with red accents? Or even black with green accents? Lots of different schemes available out there, they didn't have to go black and chrome.

    Thats what ebay is for.

I personally am going to sell my 360 to a friend. I'll have the new one, he'll have my old one he is always asking to borrow, and then we can play games together on Live. Now I don't have to haul it over to his house everytime.

I have no problem being cheezy. I think Shizelbs knows that... For the record, I think the 360 has the best line-up of games out right now and I've been playing my share. (It better have them with a year lead.) And although I bought my box just before Christmas, for the most part, I haven't had any problems with it. Just that annoying fan noise (I don't close the door on my e-center 'cause I'm afraid of overheating) and a few instances of can't read the disk error that cleared up after reset.

But I think the Shizelbs' thread title was something like, "I think I'm done with the 360..." Good to hear things finally worked out.

If the rumors are true it is supposed to have more then just the HDMI and 120gb harddrive. From everything I was reading it is supposed to also have a 65nm so it will generate much less heat (also cheaper to make), 1080p output via the HDMI, and a new scaler for the HDMI. I also can't remember if it is supposed to have a quieter disk drive, or if that was the PS3.

Either way I'll wait and pay the extra money just for the smaller processor, which microsoft did say it was going to have. The rest is rumor.

I hate to say this but microsoft coming out with this does not look good on them.It makes the statement,"we screwed up" so let's try to be more like Sony! It's way to obvious that they are following Sony's lead now, come on, a black console like Sony, a hard drive to match them and then the stumbling and not integrating the HD drive?Alot of people are going to look at this as a microsoft failure and possibly a Sony victory in all aspects.I might not like the games now on the PS3,but Sony sure put out the whole package the first time,in a very sexy looking console.Just my two cents here.:D

saying that Microsoft is copying Sony because they want to offer a black version is ludicrous..

people like black...kinda like when the iPod started offering black versions..
