I think you should buy a NAD amp, a power envelope, as a matter of fact I think you should buy two of them, bridge each one and then you will be.......

Oh, I thought it was for Karoke. Did not really do much, so I bought an expensive replacement cable but it sounded the same, flat and dull.

good but noisy, I have read where some folks have used them and liked them, crown builds pro gear, I am not a fan for home audio. You really need the NAD.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

i'm not sure NAD makes the PE (power envelope) series of amps anymore. i seem to remember that was several years back. Their current line of amps.. may have something similar but be called something else.

another strange question; the reciever has a mic in jack on the front of it what is this for?

The Mic on the front is used for auto calibrating the surround sound setup.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa RT1 is hip, oh snap!!!!!!!!

Thump, the power envelope are out of production you can fine used ones on Audiogon.com or sometimes here in our flea market. New NAD products are great but cost bucks, what is your budget? I thought you wanted a used product.

well all i'm going to be using the power amp for is powering the monitor 70's so i don't work the reciever to hard. i like new stuff because of warrentys, but if i can get a great 2 channel stereo power amp that makes at least 200 watts continuous r.m.s. for around 300 to 500 dollars thats great

Reading this thread made my head hurt!

    98thumper,

Forget about the preamp/signal switcher/amp business for now. If you get the Onkyo receiver you inquired about and hook your speakers to it, I bet you'll be happy with the sound. If you're not, then come back here and ask more questions about amps.

No, I don't necessarily think the Onkyo is the better receiver. I think either one of them would be a great start. I just think it would be silly for you, as a relative newbie (at least that's my impression) to home audio, to be thowing money around at amps when you don't really understand WHY you need an amp. Save your money- get a receiver. Listen. If you're happy, great. If you feel that it's lacking, ask more questions.

Not that the guys that recommended an amp are trying to steer you wrong-- The suggestion of an amp is not a bad idea, if like you say, you like to listen to loud music. BUT it's something you can add later IF you need it, and when you might have a better understanding of just what you're trying to do.

Jason, you hit it on the head.. he doesn't know what he wants.. or why he needs this or that. So he keeps changing his questions.... ne 1 know nething about Onkyo? over and over again.

He needs to get out and demo some receivers instead of asking us which is the better receiver. Whatever happen to doing your own demos, instead of asking the same question over and over again??
