Piercing the Peerless Soft Dome?

I picked up a pair of Peerless soft dome tweeters off eBay. They arrived today, great condition. I bought them as I have been hearing one of the tweeters in my Monitor 7's acting up for several months now.
Polk pierced holes in the center of the Peerless domes to relieve pressure inside the dome. At least that's what I read here. I'm contemplating whether or not to pierce the domes on my newly arrived tweets. My first inclination is not to pierce it and see what it sounds like. Anyone have some experience to share as to the performance with and without the hole? Suggestions for piercing?

Make sure you wear clean rubber gloves use a sterilized needle.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
Polk used the tip of a hot soldier iron, I would leave well enough alone and not risk destroying a presumably clean pair of 810665's.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

My thoughts exactly. I know some members have used the solder needle tip. I had visions of the dried silk dome surface lighting up, leaving me a jagged 1/4" diameter hole:eek:

I have a spare with the blowhole that works but is not a museum piece. It's yours if you would like for comparison.

Should this be performed by a rabbi, or can it be tried at home by a layman ?Sal Palooza -

No, it must be done by a Shochate and the remnants buried in the ground. Also must be done on the 8th day of its new life....:)UNIVERA

I think the hole is probably there to break up standing waves on the dome. Isn't it interesting that Peerless, who designed the tweeter, made it with the dome intact but Polk decided it needed a hole in it?
FWIW, I am sure y'all know the Peerless KO10DT tweeter was used in many, many speakers and also in DIY's. What you may not know is that early Teledyne-era Acoustic Research speakers used an OEM version of this same tweeter. I have a single, early AR14 with this somewhat unusual looking Peerless tweeter:
Here's a later AR-14 with a different tweeter:
And, finally, for comparison, here's a Polk Monitor 7A with the holey Peerless:

My Jennings Research uses the peerless tweeter too. Noticing what polk did, I took the tip of my soldering gun and tipped it. After I did it..I did noticed the Jennings were not quite as bright (alittle less harsh) but not affecting the stability of the peerless. Sounded alittle more natural IMO. But do it at your own risk..it is tricky, the dome melts quickly. So it doesnt take much touch at all.

Not really, by doing so Polk made it 'their own'.

Is the hole a penatration? I've examined the Peerless tweets in my Monitor 11s extensively and get the sense it's a dimple.

On my 7b's and the one I bought off of ebait, the silk is penatrated not just pushed in.Monitor 7b's front

No jive-butt dimples; they's holes in mines'es

I just looked over my four Peerless tweets and see that the tiny hole actually goes through the outer black dome and then is followed by an un-pierced off white layer. All four are holes look to be the same size and very uniform. I don't think that "I" could reproduce this nearly as well at home and so wouldn't try it unless it didn't matter if I messed up.
