Another SVS on the way

Placed the order for PB12-Plus/2 this afternoon. Went for textured black, couldn't hardly swing the extra 200 bucks for the wood finsh, I really liked the oak but I wanted something that would match pretty much anything so I went with the black instead.

Millerman, I'm guessing what you and I talked about helped a little in making your decision to pull the trigger. I never heard anything back from you so I wasn't even sure if you got my last PM. Anyways, CONGRATS, I'm sure you will be plenty pleased with your purchase and welcome to the SVS club.

Thanks Scott. Even if not, when it all gets set up, you need to come over and give the whole system a listen. Help me find the spots on the wall that need covering at least, and maybe identify all of the ceiling tiles that are rattling.

    Mike,

Sounds great. I would love to hear your set up. Your current set up is at the level that I am aiming for.

I am thinking about building some of those sound absorbing panels like the ones in Soundscape. I have woodshop space up in Cockeysville. I did not take a close enough look at them but I think they are pretty simple to build. I probably will just have to source the foam material inside and let my wife pick the fabric to cover them.

Millerman, I could have sworn I hit the submit button but anyways this is what I had to say when I purchased my first SVS three years ago. My first impressions of the SVS when I first received it was I was a little disappointed with the sound. As far as the size of this thing, you'll !@#$ yourself when you see it, it's huge. Before I purchased the SVS I was using dual Polk Audio, PSW450's. The Polk's pounded in the 30Hz. range but seemed to fall short on anything below that. The sound quality of the Polks to me where way to boomy, but at the time I thought, man this sounds good. The room I used to use as my H/T room was roughly 3200 cu.ft. (which is the game room now) and the Polks did a fine job filling the room with sound but to me it was still missing something but at the time I didn't know what it was.

Dr. Spec. (Ed Mullen) which use to frequent the forums quite a bit then told me about SVS. So, I figured I'd give it a shot. The very first movie I ever played with the SVS in place was "Finding Nemo", the glass tap scene. I'll never forget what went threw my head when I first heard it, Holy !@#$, it literally felt like someone was kicking me in the chest. The air pressure in the room changed so much that it caused my eardrums to pop as if I were flying in a plane or driving up a mountain, I never experienced this with the Polks. Once I took the time to properly calibrate the SVS, something then just didn't seem right. I was expecting the boomy sound the Polks gave me and it was not there. The only thing I heard was clean, very accurate, tight bass. No boomy bass was coming from this sub and that was why it didn't sound right.

If I'm not mistaken, I beleive the first time Doro (a.k.a. Mark) heard the PB12-Plus/2 was at my house, it may have been the first time he ever heard a SVS, not sure, but send him a PM, he'll tell you. I don't think it was long after that, he owned a SVS subwoofer. By all the threads in the Polk forum about SVS subwoofer's and how well they perform, DO NOT second guess you purchase, you will not be sending it back so make sure when you finally find a final resting place for it, it's there to stay, that is of course, if the wife approves of it, once again, it's very large, just allow her to decorate it. My wife tried but nothing ever seemed to stay on top of it, it kept falling off.:D
Hope this helps in easing you mind about your purchase.

Frist thoughts, very controled, when I would calibrate my Klipsch the spl meter would bounce around alot, but with SVS the needle hardly moves, maybe 2 or 3 db. more to come later. Added a few pics in the system showcase.
