^^^Agreed with your thought, Brettw22.
One extreme end of the board is the position where we do nothing in response to 9/11.
Bury our heads in the sand, and hope terrorism goes away.
The other opposite extreme is where we nuke Iran, Syria, and Pakistan back into the stone age.
The question is, where on the board should our resonse lie ?
My opinion is that what this situation definitely calls for, and I'd dare say deperately needs, is a statesman and a master politiician.
Do we have that on our side ?
My opinion would be definitely not.Sal Palooza -

Things over there arent as bad as theyre being portrayed. Is it a Utopia? Of course not, but its not total chaos either. Most of the violence is between waring factions and no longer as much against our boys. The death of Zarkowi seemed to be the death nail for al Qaeda over there. The government is up and running for the most part and their economy is taking its baby steps.
Also, the Iraqi police and military are taking charge more and more of security and a lot of the raids and enforcement measures have been carried out by Iraqi security forces.
You have to understand that by Bin Laden's own admission, Iraq is the site of WWIII and so they are totally focused on it, thats why its taking longer than Afghanistan did. Eventually we will win and I have no doubt that years from now, Iraq will be a stable country and an ally to the US and England.
Mistakes have been made and things could be a lot better in Iraq but things are getting better and not worse.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Can't we all just get along?
Here's how to fix this.
1. Go buy the latest Cat Stevens record, and wear a dirty Bedsheet.
2. Make your woman Wear a Burka.
3. Smoke one and daydream about 72 Virgins!

As I said earlier the war was not made with the best of plans (that is really the only thing I think the administration did wrong with it) so I think turning it over to the Iraqis when the time is right is going to take a hell of a lot better planning and making sure that he UN is heavily involved so that we don't have or feel full responsibility for the clean-up and maintenance.
See Brett I didn't quote you and now this reply is 6 posts down. I think I like quoting better. -

Very good thoughts here however we are going to be dealing with that/those maniac(s) from Iran, their puppet Syria and Pakistan who has the bomb and in a very broad sense is harboring Ohasn't bin Ladin.
They definetly want to nuke us and Israel back to the stone age. How do we deal with that kind of hatred and fanaticism? How do you try to talk to a guy like Ahmadinejad whose sole function is to spread the message of hate toward Israel and the US. Every Friday after morning prayers since the Ayatollah took over in the late 70s, ALL of the Iranian people are required to chant "DEATH TO AMERICA, that is all of 30 years."
How is a kid who was born let's say in 1980 in Iran who is now 26 going to be able to know that he has been taught nothing but hatred and violence toward the US & Israel and that teaching is anything less than absolutely correct? -

Very true. The Iranis have been practicing this tradition for close to 30 years now and some people think that we can talk our way out of the inevitable....an all out war with Iran and it's puppets.

How can you equate the Civil Rights movement in this country to what foreign facists are trying to impose on the free world. Who is being asinine?
Civil Rights? In America? There are few left unaltered or completely intact after 9-11. Even Constitutional rights haven't survived. The government is now in your closet, and is leveraging terrorist fear to separate you from your rights. It's blatently breaking the written law that founded this country. I know I'll take slack for it, but I am ashamed at how far from America, America is. No one has any balls anymore. If this happened a generation ago, there would strikes and riots. Instead we're learning new words like "vertically challenged" to describe a midget.

I am looking for the info that I saw on Screensavers in 2003 about software that the FBI developed to snoop on emails, BBS and forums. There was a group of liberals who organized a campaign against it and lost. Because TechTV was bought by G4 it seems that most of the old posts are gone. I am checking Leoville to see if I can find it. Anthrax? I remember a scare with white powder being sent to a bunch of politicians but nothing widespread. And besides, if the terrorists had done it, they wouldve claimed it. They love to take credit for these things.
Couldnt be more wrong. The timing of this war was perfect. Right after 9/11.
Actually it shouldve been a lot sooner like in the mid 90's. The war in Iraq was NOT a preeptive strike; it was a RESUMPTION of action.
When we took them on in 91, the conditions of us not going into Iraq and flattening the place was the Saddam disarm and allow UN inspections. Those were the terms. He snubbed his nose at that agreement for 12 years while the UN, drunk with oil bribes, refused to act. So after 9/11 proved to us we could no longer allow threats like this to remain, we resumed the action that was agreed upon in the first Gulf War.
Yeah, there have been mistakes. There were mistakes made in WWII as well. Nobody is perfect. However this war is going in the right direction overall and we are winning! As long as it continues to do so I say the current leadership is doing the job.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Even the current admin. called this a pre-emptive stike. I am listening to those that have been over there! I know a few myself plus you see a host of them on the news talking about how the bad is over reported while the good goes ignored. They had a couple wounded soldiers appear on a local left wing talk show here in town as they were promoting their charity for wounded or dead soldiers families. Their motto was "No politics, just soldiers". The scumbag left wing host kept on and on trying to get them to say how much they hated Bush and how screwed up things were in Iraq and after about 15 minutes of this they finally broke down and told him, albeit nicely, to eff off! They said it aint perfect over there but then again its war and that they believed in what they were doing otherwise they wouldnt have signed up!
And EVERYBODY was saying Iraq had WMD's! The UN said it, Bill Clinton said it thousands of times when he was President. John Kerry said "if you dont believe Saddam has WMD's and is a threat to us, then dont vote for me". Little Dick Gephardt, Tom Daschle, Dick Durbin, Joe Biden, even Ted Kennedy took time away from his cocktails and drunked driving to announce Saddam has em. Of course all these guys (except Kerry) were saying this back when Clinton was in office. Apparantly Saddam had them in the 90's but Jan 2001 he immediately got rid of them all.
PLUS we've already found enough Saren gas to kill 500,000 people! Not to mention the WMDS Saddam had already used on his own people!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
