Paypal strikes again, this time locking down a fundraising account for a family of a fallen soldier in Iraq. Classy.

I'm sure this is good for a RT1 haiku or two.

Yes, I could, but this is so sad I am disgusted, I deal in breaking policies obtaining waiver's all the time. This goes to the heart of this company, it goes to true intent. Legal of course it is, moral, well not by me.

In the interest of full disclosure (as well as a happy story about the little guy beating the big evil corporation), PayPal did relent on the above story after a flood of correspondence, so the money is going to the soldier's family.

Ok, Paypal is not our friend but an nessary evil ... If don't like Paypal's fee's than what do you think of cable tv, satilite radio, Lawyers fee, Dr. fees, cell phones, movie rental over due fees.. ..... Decent tv & radio was free. Now if they say it's free, than it must be hiden in some form of tax... The most upsetting for me in my area is the "school tax"... It's killer....

for me its a necessary evil. i like the idea of using my credit card to pay as this grants me extra protection, that unless its a store with visa master card proceesing. i am not going to get from joe seller any other way. plus its conveneint for me i clik a few times with the mouse and its done. no worrying about whether i have stamps or envelopes or the time to go to po for a money order and wait an half hour in line for. plus when i sell i like the idea of getting paid quickly. the buyer likes to get his item shipped quicker also. is it a perfect system? no but its the best there is for now and worth the 3 percent to me. REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

You can also use eChecks which only cost $5. This is pretty useful for high dollar transactions with folks I already know.

I use PayPal alot and can't wait to use it again.

Wow, over 100 posts; not going back to read all and probably I already posted here...but here it goes:

I use Paypal everytime I can; the 3% or so gives me peace of mind. I have used the paypal refund twice already. Once for a pair of RTi12's that were never shipped, once for an X-box 360 that arrived damaged. paypal always has responded.

I would consider PayPal very low on my list of things to worry about Constitutionally. There are bigger things to worry about in this world don't you think?

Depends on how you look at it. The Jews probably said the same thing while the gypsies and homosexuals were hauled away first....

It is awfully easy to vote with my pocketbook in this case, so I do, same with Heinz, Levi-Strauss, Ben & Jerry's, etc.....

I am paying for a service that includes a very good protection against fraud that has already refunded my hard earned money twice. I think it is very much worth it. Don't see the realtionship with constitutional rights here.

If you don't like it, don't use it. Simple.

I'm curiously ambivalent about this whole thing. BTW who is this Pay Pal? What do we know about him? How do we know he is our pal? What if we would prefer a Pay Gal? I might be less ambivalent about that....

I just joined this forum a little while ago and have been just getting adjusted by reading (alot!!) I have to commend most posters on their knowledge and genuine interest in the actual forum subject matter.

I do have to share a recent experience with paypal, as a seller, for a future 'heads up'

I had received payment 8/1 on a ebay item through paypal. 6 weeks later i am notified my account has a negative balance of 75.00 as the transaction was placed under review. When I called to find out what was up, the CSR could not tell me where the investigation had initiated (paypal vs. buyer) So I figured I would just wait it out since I've been a premier member since 2000.
In the meantime i replenished my negative balance with the 75.00 in order to conclude another transaction.
Bad idea! The next day I receive notice that the payment has been reversed and returned to the buyer. Paypal was the only indication of any problems with this transaction, as all communications with the buyer were cordial.
Back on the phone with paypal to find out the details on my 'stolen' 75.00.
When I asked about the details I was forwarded through 2 more people and finally reached someone that would tell me what the hell was going on with my money.
The CSR informed me that the payment was made with a fraudulent credit card charge. Huh??? After 45 days this is just now coming to light?

question: Do I have any protection on this?
CSR: Go to the main page down on the bottom and click 'user agreement'. (My transaction didn't qualify for protection within one of the many, many conditions of which one I am still not sure of)

    question: Does this happen often?
    CSR: Unfortunately quite a bit

question: So what you are saying is that receiving payment through paypal is kind of a crapshoot?
CSR: Somewhat (I couldn't believe she said that!, but I certainly appreciated the honesty)

Bottom line~ If payment is taken through paypal you are at their mercy.
I feel thankful the amount was only 75 bucks.

Just a 'heads up' in return for all the fine knowledge that has been shared on this forum to help me with my Home theater.
After being a faithful premier paypal member for 7 years, I now have to say
    'Paypal sucks'.
Watch out for taking payment on big ticket items, or you may end up
    eating it.

    Welcome to the Forum.

You are (in fact) correct in stating that Paypal is REPLETE WITH SUCKIOSITY.
Or maybe not. Perspective is the oft neglected undercurrent of communication.

From an audio perspective, stepbacks are a way of life. It would be overtly utopian to think that one is constantly marching onward in this hobby.

Regardless, sorry to hear about your trials and tribs. With what gear are you currently running this race?

Nah, not looking for any sympothy, but thanks anyway. I am a business owner, so this is nothing new. Just trying to share experience to increase awareness.
    Thanks for the thought though.

I'm actually a newbie to the Home Theater world. WAF has dictated inwalls and original budget allowed for the tc series (tc265i l-c-f tc65 (rs-ls-rc)
As you mentioned, this hobby is a never ending quest so my goal of changing to the LC series using a AV receiver is somewhat financially daunting for me with the 4 ohm power, but it will happen somehow (If Kotke and his 12 string didn't exist I would most likely be happy with 'movie speakers')
Don't want to go too deep in respect to the thread topic.

I'll be asking for help on the above power recommendations in the next week or so. Life would be easy if I could just move my Denon/outlaw/forte combo downstairs (sorry for using the F word) ;-)
