Just to clear things up, the TL series SL3000 tweeters are trilaminated by vapor depositing stainless steel & aluminum to a polymide surface. The midbass drivers are also a trilaminated polymer speaker. I quote from Polk, "a performance level is attained that is beyond the reach of conventional drivers that use simple paper or vacuum-formed plastic cones." It should also be noted that the 1.2TL & 2.3 TL have lower bass distortion at 25Hz than many audiophile grade tube amps! These speakers do everything well and to me sound the closest to a live performance. Since I have not listened to the RT55 that you claim have better resolution and refinement, I can't comment on that other to say (as others have) that having a great overall performance seems better to me than just excelling at one thing. A friend just purchased a pair of Vienna Acoustics Mozart's ($2500.00) that have excellent resolution, but nothing else and he needs a sub with those to have any bass at all. Worst of all they are left/right with nothing in the middle.
$2850.00 for some used 1.2TL's!!! Worth it at twice the price.

A nod to raife1 for his past help.

The SRT never caught on with classic SDA enthusiasts.
My guess is their $7300 price tag is the sole reason for that. Most people that can afford to spend that much on speakers would never think of looking at Polk.

F1, I only ever said that the RT55's are far superior to the RTA line.

I've demoed these speakers on two seperate occasions and was completely unimpressed, especially for $2500. You can do a lot better for the same money (and less).

Yeah, you're right about the RT55's. It was the LSi's you were comparing to the SDA's. If you ever get down to MD look me up and I'll give you a demo on some 2.3TL's. You'll leave with the same grin all us SDA nuts have.

    Aaron,
I read the post you linked but all I got out of it is that you had no experience with SDA's but given the price difference the '55's are the winner. I respect your position but I can't give you the nod considering the posts. That would be like me comparing the price of the SDA's against a pair of (name of something high priced I have not lived with) and saying the SDA's win. I don't think you will ever find a post that contradics that. SDA's are the **** compaired to anything else I have experience with that I can afford at this time. Like I said though, the '55's had enough merit for me to suggest someone listen to them.

Man, $2850 will make a guy pause for a second and think about it. But not for long. I was priveleged enough to have all 3 kids out of the house for a week, giving me a chance to fall in love with my 1.2TL's all over again. After listening to Stravinsky's The Firebird, in it's entirety, without interruption.... it just takes you away. That unholy dynamic range and gorgeous soundstage brings a smile to my face everytime.

Sorry Aaron, I didn't realize you 'demoed' them, I guess that makes you a 'pro' on SRT. I personally think you should shut your effin cornhole about SDA period, until you 'demo' them also....

For me, like I said in my SDA2b review, they induced a ****-eatin' grin, and made listening FUN. They may not do anything EXACTLY right per-se, but they sure do everything VERY WELL.

yeah, aaron you do not know what you are missing, I have kicked myself in the **** repeatedly for ever letting my sda srs 2's leave this house. I have yet to listen to a any newer polk model that could even come close to them, they just do not have the soundstage and presence that the sda's have. You must find somewhere to audition a pair, your ears will never feel the same again and you too will be sucked in with the rest of us and be forever smitten by these awsome vintage speakers.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. For the money, you get an incredible sonic image. All SDA's sound similar, the Reference series just seems to give you a HUGE presentation. OK, I haven't heard ALL SDA's, but from what I have listened to, this seems to be the case.

Another pair of SDA's, which ones? Let me guess, they are probably 2.3 or 1.2TL's? Actually with that new sub they could be 1C's or CRS. Couldn't stay away huh?
As for tubes, har, they add a lot of midrange detail which the SDA's really like. The treble becomes more realistic as well. Might as well go all the way and say the bass is more pleasing to me as well. Overall it is a more "live" sound.

All of them that I have, I guess I have an all or nothing view of speakers. I have the Studio 100's (real wood light cherry finish) and matching CC (black) & ADP's (white)

They are on Ebay so get you bid on or make a deal of Ebay, it works for me.

BTW Russman, got a sig, your last one sucked but not having one sucks more, even if it is ****.

Oops I am caught again, sold to a co-worker who was like me tired of seeing them here at the office wasting away, I have tried mant times to rebuy them from him he says "yea right" "are you nuts? you ain't getting these back", I should have sold them for what they were worth instead of what I paid, oh well as history has shown I will find them again. The 1C's really fit my need the best but damn those 1.2's are cool as hell.

    Max,

I never had a tube amp before, so that i know what it is like to experience the greatness of the sound, as to what you guys have been saying, a tube amp produces. I will try to get a tube Amp as far as it will bring a realistic and live sound of my 1.2TL's, so far I intend to get the Jolida tube amp because they are the ones that are affordable. I'm thinking to get a new one, a used one, maybe a good deal but I'm not sure how many hours left of their tubes will last...
My second choice is the Sonic Frontier, but they are more expensive compared to Jolida.

That is really funny! I think that is the one I purchased but you could check to be sure. He contacted me after I bid on another. This turned out to be a great deal! I ended up with 4 6550 Svetlana tubes, 4 Kt-88 tubes, 4 Ruby 6550 tubes, 2 Telefunkin tubes, 2 westinghouse 5751 tubes, 2 JAN GE tubes and 4 other tubes that came with the thing. Pretty much the whole upgrade path anyone would take. The tubes he sent me cost more than the amp! Wow, how do I get lucky like that. If you paid regular price for all of that you would have over $1600 in it. Yes, it was a very good deal!!! Sorry, I don't know anything about the Adcom.
