As I stated in a post before....these would sell for 8-9 grand or more today new. The LSi15's are not in the same league as the 1.2TL's? Are they worh over $2100.....I think so if I you have the coins to buy them? Don't have one of my catalogs near me.....I think they are about 60" tall and weight in at 180lb EACH.......I would love a pair of these......will probably never happen for me!Oh, the bottle has been to me, my closes friend, my worse enemy! -
To quote my 7th grade English teacher: "Quality, not quantity."The LSi15's are not in the same league as the 1.2TL's.
I think not. The SRT's "only" sold for $7300, and those used better drivers all around, seperate enclosures, dual 12" powered subwoofers, and an external SDA control box.these would sell for 8-9 grand or more today new.

And I will say it again. The LSi15's IMO are not in the same league...The SRT's "only" sold for $7300, and those used better drivers all around
Please explain you thinking they are better drivers?dual 12" powered subwoofers
So....this make them more audiophile.....build quality?and an external SDA control box
So....you can say this is better than the SDA internal crossovers?
Maybe you are right Aaron......maybe so?....but I dunno;)Oh, the bottle has been to me, my closes friend, my worse enemy! -
You really think the SDA's can touch the LSi's in terms of resolution and refinement? I don't think so. The bass extension was greater with the SDA's, and the bigger ones certainly created a larger, more powerful wall of sound. It's also interesting to note that the LSi15's would have cost $2000-2400 if they were bought back in the time of the SDA's (1986-1990). Why do you think this is? Way-superior drivers, better cabinet construction, and a fairly fancy wood veneer and black gloss finish. I don't know enough about the crossover components from either speaker to make a judgment call here.To quote my 7th grade English teacher: "Quality, not quantity."
Come on, do I really have to answer this? the SDA's used those cheap coated paper drivers and the SLx000 tweeter. The SRT's use the newer synthetic (polypropylene?) drivers and the tri-lam tweeter. The SRT's "only" sold for $7300, and those used better drivers all around
Well, I was using this fact to refute your claim that the SDA's would cost $8-9k when they don't even have woofers, let alone dual 12" subwoofers with built-in amplification. I think the key here is that the woofers are in a completely separate enclosure. Also, I know someone did replace the built-in amplifiers with their own external power amps.dual 12" powered subwoofers
No idea, really. Again, I was just pointing out that this costs more money to do it this way. I would tend to think it is an advantage since you can adjust the level of SDA effect and phase adjustment. I mean, if it wasn't better, why would Matt include it in his reference speaker system?and an external SDA control box

If they will make them today, Of course they have more better
driver than the SRT's that means more defined, clear, better imaging... in comparison 1 tweeter vs. 4 tweeters and 8 same
drivers, A subwoofer its not a factor, you can usually match a
descent subs to the 1.2TL's.
For me... I prefer the 1.2TL's than the SRT's.

Once again you have lost me.....Why is this?better cabinet construction, and a fairly fancy wood veneer and black gloss finish.
So....."fairly fancy wood veneer" is more expensive than real oak......didn't know that...the SDA's used those cheap coated paper drivers and the SLx000 tweeter. The SRT's use the newer synthetic (polypropylene?) drivers and the tri-lam tweeter.
So....the tri-lam's are better than the SL3000's.....really...and the polypropylene drivers does what.....make them last longer.....or sound better......why not aluminum like a horned speaker "you know the ones".....is that even better......or is it that they are 5.25".....why not 4" like B_se......."you know the ones".......Also, I know someone did replace the built-in amplifiers with their own external power amps.
Why would they do that........I mean, if it wasn't better, why would Matt include it in his reference speaker system?
What does SDA-"SRS" mean...........
With all said.......I will say you are right Aaron.....they would cost $6999.99............:DOh, the bottle has been to me, my closes friend, my worse enemy! -
I can tell you about the SRS-SDA. Signature Reference Series / Stereo Diminsional Array. They had several SDA's but only the original SDA-SRS, 1.2 SDA-SRS, 1.2TL SDA-SRS, 2.3 SDA-SRS 2.3TL SDA-SRS and I think the 3.1 SDA-SRS had the honor of being called SRS. (Matt Polk signature on them, The Elite, they were also bi-amp capable whereas the 1C SDA and below were not). The SRS series speakers had a special plate on the front of them that had Matts signature embossed on it painted with gold paint and all the other non-signature models had only the "polk audio" logo on it, also painted in gold. The TL obviously denotes use of the upgraded SL-3000 tweeter rather than the older SL-2000 tweeter (along with the appropriate crossover changes).

Well, for "cheap, coated paper" drivers, they sure last a long time. My SDA's range in age from 14 to 16 years old. They all look and, more importantly, sound great. Polk used quality drivers, electrical components, and cabinetry in all the SDA's. Their high resale value and superb performance after more than a decade of use is a testament to their quality.
With regard to the "SLx000" tweeters, the SL2000 had a resonance peak at 14 kHz, but was a fine sounding tweeter and blended well with the drivers it was used with. The SL3000 tweeter corrected the resonance peak and was one of the flattest response tweeters ever used in a consumer market speaker.
Concerning paper vs. plastic (polypropylene) drivers, some of the most highly regarded (and expensive) speaker makers use coated paper drivers. Dunlavy Audio Labs is one manufacturer that comes to mind. There are some sonic advantages to using treated paper rather than plastic, one being more natural reproduction of voices and acoustic instruments.
I am just curious Aaron, what SDA models do you currently own or have you owned in the past?Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
I already got into an SDA-pissng contest with you awhile back and don't intend to do it again. We both know each other's position on this matter, so there's no point in rehashing it.I am just curious Aaron, what SDA models do you currently own or have you owned in the past?
Aaron -
I've forgotten, please re-hash, for us slow on the uptake mofos....... heh heh Does this have to do with the RT55 being a crowning achievment for Polk?

Aaron
Russman,
Maybe I'm a "slow on the uptake" **** also, but I have no recollection of a "pissing contest" between me and Aaron. Since I joined the forum in July 2001, the only people I recall having discussed SDA's with are the following:
hoosier21
rskarvan
har_navalta
madmax001
RuSsMaN
TroyD
wangotango68
nascarman
F1nut
crispydiller
mikemokr
Dean/Klipschead (Does he still come around?)
rlw
Paul DiComo.
Perhaps Aaron thought I was talking to him when I was really talking to one of the members listed above. Perhaps he has me confused with another member.
@ Aaron:
With regard to "rehashing" this matter, I, like several others in the forum, was only responding to comments that you initiated. When someone makes a comment in a public forum, I expect that they realize that others might give responses, make comments or make inquiries.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

Aaron,
You like the RT55's better than any of the SDA series? What is better about them? I heard them only briefly at CC in a noisy room but they sounded nice enough to me that I encouraged a friend to go and listen to them when he asked me what to buy.

I found this thread:
http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1360&highlight=nuts
I know I started a second thread on the topic after that one, but I can't find it in the archives. I'm sure once you reread this thread you'll have a pretty good idea where I'm coming from.
Aaron -
Does this have to do with the RT55 being a crowning achievment for Polk?
No, I never said that. Russman's taking me out of context (again). What I did say is that the RT55's kick the the RTA-11T's face in. I went on to say that this shows how far Polk has come in the past 10 years. You like the RT55's better than any of the SDA series?
Aaron -
All I can say, is hearing is believing. Or perhaps, 'hearing is being able to make your own educated opinion'.
By just looking at the SDAs, components, etc, I didn't see what the big deal was, then I got my listen on and quickly removed my foot from my mouth....(and am now able to make INFORMED comments on SDA, at least the 2b)
'How far Polk has come in 10 years', I love that line.
Cheers,

Someday I'm going to buy a pair of these things just to hear what all of the fuss is about. Once I'm underwhelmed, I'm going to take Russ's idea and turn them into a planter.'hearing is being able to make your own educated opinion'.
Since you love it so much, I'll use it again. The same can be said for the LSi line from my limited experience with it.'How far Polk has come in 10 years', I love that line

Thats the Bose 901 recipe, remove the drivers=dandy herb garden.....
Just go listen man....

I've never heard SDA so I can't comment, however, if one were to look at the parts of a DQ-10 seperately, they would probably laugh. Hell, look at one with the grills removed, looks like a Hunter'd up speaker fo' sho'

Har,
Impressive. They sold for over 80% of their full (1991) retail value. I don't think I'll be selling mine until Polk decides to come out with updated versions, which means I'll be keeping mine until the end of the world too.:DProud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
Your bid, way over $1,050 man... unbelievable...
I think I said I bid $1500.00 and had a limit of $1800.00.....The next pair may only go for $1700.00-$1900.00. Ebay is a very strange thing...... I bought a Yamaha M-85 off ebay about a year ago, maybe a little longer, for $296.51 and the last 2 have sold for over $600.00? It's all about how many people at one instance are looking for a product.....If you have 3 or more interested... the bid will do good.......2 or less...maybe, maybe not? With all said.....I have not looked at the final bid......$1800.00 was a stretch for me....
Oh, the bottle has been to me, my closes friend, my worse enemy! -

I wonder if the fellow who won the $2850 1.2TL's is going to have to pay a hefty crating/shipping charge on top of that?:mad:Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

Aaron,
The SRT never caught on with classic SDA enthusiasts. I don't know how well they did in the general market place. If you've noticed, they are rarely mentioned, even among hardcore SDA cultists.
Some of us, for reasons that I do not care to elaborate on, do not even consider them "real" SDA's. An automotive analogy would be taking a Ferrari engine, steering wheel, and leather seats and putting them in say, a Corvette. Sure, you'll have some genuine Ferarri parts, but that does not make the Corvette into a Ferarri. Likewise with putting SDA technology into the SRT. It is/was probably a very fine or even excellent speaker for what it was designed to do. I have never had any interest in auditioning them.
I do, however, have a keen interest in the LSi line. I will be posting a review of (my own) LSi9's in the near future.;)Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country!
