I've used the National branded rectifiers (5AR4/GZ34) in several applications, and they are stellar--also, highly sought after. No experience with their 6922/6DJ8s in music reproduction gear, but in the front end of Fender guitar amps the Mitsus are excellent.

I might suggest you research the Amperex 7308 gold pin 6922/6DJ8 equivalent. The USN/CEP or JAN models would be my preference. These take my tube output CDP to a totally higher level in SQ. A matched pair can be had, with some judicious searching, for around the same price.

BTW - In case you haven't happened upon it, here's an interesting read:

i am using amperex orange globes and jj tesla e88cc's. i can get some amperex 7308's from gary dodd for $70, he thinks they are the best tubes for this preamp. i also have jan philips that came with the preamp but i think one is leaking as there is quite a bit of high end hash and sometimes a seeping sound so i don't use them.

In general, I prefer Amperex's 6DJ8/6922/7308 family, but I admit I didn't try 7308 because I am cheap :-) Matsuishita is supposed to be very close to Amperex who set up Mat's manufacturing. However, for that price, I will say 'pass'. Buy the real Amperex!!!

Those are pretty much Mullard 6922. Mullard sold their tooling to Matsushita when they closed down the plants. The price is not too high nor low. I'm sure you could get them cheaper off ebay, but you know you're getting genuine NOS from dealers.
