Sal, I am not sure why the test distance is so important. I figured the only thing that mattered was how fast your connection to your ISP was on your primary PC. What does speed on a home network have to do with my internet connection speed?
Not trying to break your shoes, I just don't know what you were implying with those different tests, that's all. I mean, wouldn't you want the fastest [possible] speed you could get?
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

As requested. I did some speedtest to various regions far away from me to see what my connection would do. Not bad. I think many of you guys have good speed results as well, but I understand for the really fast stuff there is a premium to be paid in the USA. Next month Japan will release it's true 1GB fiber line for home use so I should be upgrading here shortly as it becomes available. Imagine that.............that should scream.

The closer you are to your testing area the faster the speed will be.

Who cares how fast my connection is if I am viewing website hosted in NJ.

I want to know how fast my connection will be if I am viewing a website in CA, or downloading from an ftp site in Italy.

That is a true test of an ISP, one that can give you 20Megs from any point in the world.

I just spoke about the home network speeds because some people don't realize that 20Megs from Verizon Fios is only 1/5 the speed that you get on your home network.

That internet speeds for the general public have not met the speeds of internal networks.

If you copy a file from your daughter's pc to your pc in your house over a wired network you are copying it at 100megs

If you copy a file from an ftp site in NYC then most likely you are copying it at 2Megs or less. There's a Big difference.

In order to get the fastest speeds at a longer distance it will go to the company who owns the most fiber in their backbone, and in the US that is Verizon, and then AT&T.
    Setup:

OK, I can understand a little better now, thanks for the info !

Just for the Hell of it, I tried the connection test to other sites around the globe, and sure enough, much slower results, even from the main PC in my living room (wired connection). I guess that's why sometimes my daughters' linkups to Club Penguin is sometimes pathetically slow, even though other sites come up in a matter of seconds.

Club Polk is usually pretty quick, though, I guess it's close by? :)

Or because for the most part it's all text? It's not very graphic intensive and will usually load quickly on any non dial-up connection.

My phone loads it up in a matter of seconds even :)
