Should I?

I've been struggling with this thought all day. Hate to hash up old news, but last night I was contacted by an old dispatcher from my PD. The one that I was forced to resigned over. Hadn't ever been able to get ahold of her until now, 10 months later. Anyways, here is a backdrop on the story http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35338&highlight=police. Last night she told me that she, and two others were forced to write what they had written against me by the LT who stood over their shoulders and dictated their, "Side of the story."
So, here's my question: I am debating with myself whether I should write the Chief and call out the LT for the unethical liar that he is. Nothing mean, just an honest letter backed by facts and witnesses saying that I believe an investigation should be done on whether he is suited for leadership.
Now remember, I have a new job, am happier than I've been in a long time, and things are looking great in my life! But inside, I have this deep desire to have this LT's ways exposed. Should I take the time and compose a letter and send it? Or will it just be blown off? Is this a futile attempt at revenge? or the right thing to do?
Let me know what you all think, and convince me one way or the other. Right now, I'm leaning toward doing it... just because I know I'd feel better with the facts on the table. (Not that anyone else would care... or would they???)
No holds barred, tell me your thoughts.

If you really feel you were wronged I would do it. Send the Chief the letter. Do whatever you can to get a letter in the LT's file so he can't move up the ranks and do this to others. Send a copy of the letter to the local news station and newspaper. Make his life miserable. No Kids Allowed
cold, heartless, clueless, greedy 'young professional' -
Well, only you know what you should do.
I guess it depends on your motivations. Do you want your job back, or do you just want to try and get the LT what he deserves?
If you want your job back writing a nice respectful letter to the Chief would be the route to go. If you don't hear anything back I would leave it at that.
If you want to just get the guy what he deserves you can start with the letter, and then raise hell if you really think it's worth it. I'd just stop at putting the bug in his ear myself, but if you are adament about it you can threaten to go to reporters about it, and so on if you don't hear anything.
It's terrible what the guy did to you, and I hope he gets what is coming to him, but I'm not sure if stirring up a hornets nest is the best option. You definitely don't want to burn any bridges by pressing the issue. -
I think you have to do it. How many others might have been effed up by the guy.
On the other hand, if your new position is anywhere close to being associated with that precinct, let it go and tuck the information away for a rainy day.
In the end, if your happy at the new place and your old coworkers still think you're cool then either choice is OK.There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -
It isn't right what happened to you. Do you know if the dispatchers are willing to stand by their statements if and when everything hits the fan?
Any fallout from your letter will likely affect them more then you.

Lowe's Management vs. Police Work. Hmmm, not even in the same ball-park. I have looked at every angle, and can't find one that would come back and burn me for, "Stirring up the Hornet's nest" in my current line of work.
I don't want that job back, and wouldn't take it if it was offered to me. I want, in all bluntness, the LT to lose his job. -Gasp- I guess that is where I am uncertain if it is the right thing to do. Revenge is not an action I want to take lightly. Other's have been burned by him in the past, and I'm sure more will be in the future.
And if I do this, It will be full blown, with written affidavits from all parties involved, with all my t's crossed and i's dotted. That's what I'm still struggling with, if I should spend the energy (Yes, it will take lots I'm sure!!) to satisfy myself that the truth is out about bozo lt, or just let lying dogs lie...Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member

You should do what you want.
I would add co-workers who thought you and they were wronged might of acted at the time, not a year afterward.
They might face action for filing a false report. If they are all female they might get out of it by playing the card though.

I don't think writing to anyone within the force will achieve anything. If you are serious about it, write the letter to the city manager or some other city official who is not on the force. Only then will the complaint not just be thrown away.
-
I would send the letter to the chief and the city to document what happened; people like that should not be left to mess up more lives.
-
I didn't vote because there wasn't a "maybe" choice! The problem is that people like the LT get away with this mode of operation because no one wants to risk what it takes to make a stand and call them out. To do what you are proposing also puts those who you would need for support at risk. They may have a different story when it is on the line and official! The LT knows this, and therefore sleeps well at night.
So, is it really worth it at this point in time? Never underestimate the ability of someone in that position to make your life hell in return. A few things disappear at your work, and lookee at the fact that the LT's buddies found them at your place. If you have examined your intent and are comfortable you are doing this for the right reasons, then I would look at some back-door tactics. Who are your allies? Who else has the LT shafted? The thing about people like the LT is that when they shaft enough people, there becomes that balance point when enough people are against them, and they are communicating, and they have enough leverage through other relationships to finally get something done.DKG999

It's got nothing to do with your current job, and everything to do with future jobs.
You should do it if you want to, but that is one of the drawbacks if it doesn't play out in your favor and you do raise hell. -
I can't see anyone still working there that would be willing to stir the pot or chance losing a job much less for another ex worker.. so getting letters with names is very unlikely. and without names its hear say.
as much as you would like to do this, I can't see you coming out on top in the end. its like sueing a huge company and your a one man army.. you know who comes out on top there..

As much as I'd like to tell you to go after the LT, I can't. Let it go. You've got a great family to focus on now, no need to add what will surely become more stress. Things are looking up for you now, just keep moving forward.
Hope to see you soon. -
You know more about the internal workings of the Cop Shop than we do. What about them looking out for each other, you know they do. Also, since you no longer work there, would you be a disgruntled ex-employee? No mussle there since you are out and he's still in. And what about the Drive home, Ticket city? More........Gonna cross the Thin Blue Line?

Well, as much as I like to see that LT get what he deserves, I have to say, I think you should let this one just die.
You are enjoying your new job; you recently got some great news from the hospital; Just keep things moving in a postive direction and enjoy life.
I have a feeling that any action against the LT will only cause bad things in your life; stress, anger, disappointment, counter-actions from the LT, who knows...you don't need it.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -

Let it go Nightly. I fall into the same line of thought as DKG999. You have moved on & life is better for you now than ever.
That *itch should have had the guts to stand by you & tell the truth 10 months ago when it happened. I wouldn't trust her to do the right thing now!
If these other wronged people really want to do the right thing, let THEM bring the charges against him & get an affidavit from you! My guess is nothing will happen now cause they will turn chicken all over again!

I really don't think it's worth it to put himself, & his wife through a whole lot of stress & worry to revenge his bruised ego & for some back pay. If he wasn't married with kids I'd say knock yourself out, maybe you might win. But he isn't alone in this & it won't just affect him!
Sometimes you have to know when to let go. Case in point, look at Cindy Sheehan. When she first started railing against the war I felt sorry for her. But then she just keeps going on & for what?
The war is still going on. When it is all over the only things that will still be definate is, 1. Her son will still be dead. 2. Her husband will still be divorced from her.
So not only was she unable to change something so much bigger than herself, she lost the 2 most important people in her life!
This guy will eventually bring himself down, they always do. In the meantime you are getting your revenge by moving on with your life, in a safe job with less stress & a loving family to come home to!

Anything put to writing should be proveable as truth, otherwise it's libel. Move on, you may be playing with an eight-headed snake. You'll win in the end.>

Get a lawyer. You have every right to file a lawsuit. Just think of the other police this guy could screw over.
When the lawyer files suit, the DA will be forced to do an investigation. The NLRB will also be interested in what's going on. Locals don't like it if the Feds show up.
Get the truth out.Carl
