Bose dosnt even have a My Space.

making business decisions based solely on wether the competition has done it allready, is not good business.

in other words, wether other companies have done it or not is not the sole factor of Polk my Myspace being a good decision or not.

being the first to do something smart = innovation. note Polks most recent tagline :)

    P.S.

    Jstas, good to see ya,

thinking outside the box must be a Jersey thing, because I pretty much agree with everything you said in this thread.

Carlos. there are many more varied types of users than your son and his friends, trust me. the operative thing here is Myspace is the most visited site now. They have a far more varied and diverse user base than most people in this thread realize. I wouldnt be surpised if the Myspace user demographic matched this country's demographic nearly to a T. I mean, look at the sample were dealing with MILLIONS of people.

can't limit your marketing to one type of person, plain and simple. and in regards to hurting reputation? I still dont get it. The internet overall is SATURATED with **** and unspeakable things, does that mean any internet advertising is bad? does that mean participating in the internet on any level is bad? I say no.

Doro, you think only a third of the guys here surf ****? I'm bumping that guess up to a solid 45%, and thats a conservative rating :D

millions of people visit myspace *pages*. those millions of people don't visit EVERY myspace page. by creating a "Polk Audio" myspace page, people are not going to see ANYTHING related to Polk Audio just by typing in www.myspace.com

Do people use myspace as a search engine? I thought no one was even close to google yet. In order to get people to even know the existence of a Polk myspace page, marketing time and money will have to be spent. Go to google and type in "speakers" and hit search. Guess what the first link is? Yep, bose. Also on the first page, B&W, Triad, Klipsch, Energy, PSB. Guess what? No POLK. I couldn't even find the polk main site on the first 10 pages or so.

I don't think creating a myspace page would be a *bad* thing for Polk. I just think that the resources spent in order to make it truly effective could be MUCH better spent on other things. (GOOGLE!!) Hell, these social networking sites are a dime a dozen, why not go and create a Polk website anywhere free hosting is offered?

so tell me this... what does a Polk myspace page offer that the current Polk website can't (or should be) offering right now? I understand people use myspace... but they use it to meet PEOPLE, listen to BANDS, etc. I just don't really see how it is any more of an effective medium than the current Polk website. If anything it only validates myspace itself more, and does absolutely squat for Polk. Anything you put on a Polk myspace page better be duplicated on the main one. Do you want to exclude the ~70% (by this poll) of people from information posted on myspace? Does Polk really want the banners associated with the Polk name?

no, not everyone on Myspace will see it, just like everyone that watches TV doesnt watch all the commercials. Its about exposure. and yes, Myspace has a search engine. Also, apparently as of about a week ago, more people visit myspace than google, yahoo etc.

the polk site will spread, just like every band, commedian, model, or whatever spreads. person to person. Its a different way to market. I just dont see your argument that it will be a complet waste of resources. you just make the page, do a little networking and go from there.

and who said anything about excluding the 70% here that dont use myspace. that makes no sence, thats like getting upset that you dont read a magazine that polk advertises in, therefore your excluded.
either they can put the info in the myspace here on the website too, or just link the page (you dont have to have a myspace account to see the page)

it seems that everyone that is having such a heart attack about polk even thinking about it has the least concept of what myspace is. believe me, I'm not a rabid fan of myspace, I poke on it once a week tops (cant do it from work since blocked either. but being angerred by Polk entertaining the notion makes no sence to me. its marketing, plain and simple. this avenue might not fit your mold, but polk's demographic even now is bigger than just the mold of us guys that post here every day. If we were polk's only customers, they would have folded by now.

    Hi everyone,

I've really appreciated all of your thoughtful replies and messages. And, as you probably guessed, I've decided to create a myspace profile. Now, before you get all huffy puffy -- if you don't like myspace, just don't go to it. And if we get no friends, well, then that will prove you right.

If you do want to be Polk's friend on myspace, go to http://www.myspace.com/polkaudioinc and add us.

    Thanks!

I think Polk knows more about how to market a product than any of us can sit on the toilet, and think about as we turn a page in a magazine. It's easy to say do this do that, when you don't know what you're talking about in the first place.

You'd be suprised how little print ads influence the actual marketplace. That is a qoute from someone who actually knows...get my drift?

Take a step back and look at your actual foothold in this community....it's a public user forum and you happen own a couple Polk speakers....WOO HOO! Stop the presses! Big F'n deal.

*The "you" in this statement is generic, lest one of you folks get all upset and start crying.

Not only print ads.. but how about television, radio, etc. how much of Polk Audio's advertising budget is spent on television ads?

Adverstising sells products. that's why businesses have advertising departments. I know this ****... because I work in tv. I don't know if a Myspace website will help in any way what Polk Audio is trying to accomplish.

Here's the way I see it... its free advertising, and a lot of big name companies who have an influx of many times more what Polk get's in a year have had a page on there for a long time (adidas is one I just saw a lot over the past couple weeks due to the World Cup).

I'm on there as a friend of Polk. Feel free to add me... or just stalk me like a dirty old man and see into the mind of a Polk engineer ;)

That's the thing. There's no way to prove whether or not it's working one way or the other unless people put MySpace on their registration cards.

I do wish they wouldn't ask for opinions and then do the complete opposite as if we really had any input. :D
