I do remember our family's first TV which was a black and white RCA. Of course, the furniture store delivered the TV and set it up. During the setup is when I saw my first show on one of the three channels. It was the Andy Divine Show. Roy Otwell of Otwell's Furniture Store in Temple GA delivered the TV.
Could you imagine if every TV today was installed by the store where purchased.

All in one consoles were a thing into the early '70s, at least.
We never had one -- they were too 'spensive.
My father serviced many, though (he had some relatively well-to-do customers, by local and temporal standards).

Photo taken by our son in Nov. 2008 (that's getting to be a while ago, isn't it?) of the low voltage 'space charge' triodes (developed for automotive radios) all aglow in a Pete Millett hybrid headphone amp I built back around... umm... the turn of the century.
