Gorgeous, somewhat dangerous, aircraft was the B-58.

Convair used a slightly housebroken, twin spool turbofan version of the Hustler's J79 (single spool) turbojet engine in the magnificent (and profoundly unsuccessful) 990 jetliner.

To my way of thinking the 990 and its progenitor (the 880) were nigh-on the most beautiful jet airliners ever built. And I am a big fan of nearly all of them :|

^^^And what about tick season: starts as soon as we have a few days above freezing and doesn't end till we have a few days of hard frost in late November or early December.

Tick season where we are, in the current climatological epoch, has gotten to be nearly year round.

One (the only?) nice thing of the Bay Area in CA is there are no ticks, very few flies, and only an occasional mosquito. When I lived in MD those three made life miserable in the spring/summer. I hope global warming doesn’t affect this.

Ever thought that global warming may save your as-s-ets...hmmm

As for the flu ....The virus survives better in cold weather because it has a protective gel-like coating that allows it to survive in the air and be passed from person to person; this coating degrades in warm temperatures.

Unfortunately, it is summer in Australia, and it doesn’t seem to have affected the virus.

    https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert

Here is the Australian corona virus statistics...and yes it's summer, but their number are low vs the rest of the world

    197 cases

    Further details:

15 of the initially reported cases in Australia all had a direct or indirect travel history to Wuhan, China

10 cases, including 1 death, are associated with the Diamond Princess cruise ship repatriation flight from Japan

18 cases are reported to have had a direct or indirect travel link to Iran

92 cases are reported to have had a direct or indirect travel link to other countries and regions.

32 cases, including 2 deaths, do not have a reported history of overseas travel

8 of these cases are associated with an aged care facility in NSW. 2 residents of this facility have sadly died

2 cases are either directly or indirectly associated with attendance at a workshop

22 cases are close contacts of known cases, with further details pending
The likely place of exposure for a further 30 newly reported cases is under investigation

Of the 197 Australian cases reported, 27 of these cases are reported to have recovered.

Cat and Mouse with the Russians.
    qqaltijm72ps.png
In this Monday, March 9, 2020, photo released by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a Russian Tu-142 maritime reconnaissance aircraft, top right, is intercepted near the Alaska coastline. U.S. and Canadian aircraft intercepted and escorted two Russian jets that flew over the Beaufort Sea near the Alaska coastline, military officials said Tuesday. The Russian Tu-142 maritime reconnaissance aircraft were escorted by F-22 and CF-18 planes, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said in a release. The Russian jets never left international airspace during the duration of the four-hour flight on Monday, but did come within 50 miles of the Alaska coast. My wife is a pretty good cook and we've been eating "healthy" for a while. It doesn't taste like bread/dough but you'd be surprised at how good it is. Unfortunately, most peoples' taste buds are oversaturated from eating processed foods for such a long time. I've adjusted and I wouldn't want some of the stuff I used to eat (too salty, too sweet, etc).
