My post doc advisor used to light his Weber grille's charcoal with acetone. Fwoosh.
I also know a fellow (a materials scientist by trade & training) who enjoyed making ice cream using liquid nitrogen. It works quite well when the goal is to get ice cream made fast. -
TIP:. If you make homemade ice cream too fast it winds up heavy on the ice, light on the cream.
