I feel like the engineers should have designed some sort of shield to protect It from any space goo, and reduce friction on reentry. Who knows how many times it may encounter entry and exit? Better protect that dome.

They did coat it with a special paint that has ribs in it to lighten aerodynamic loads and fluid transfer at launch, while aiding in cleanup of unwanted residues at the recovery site.The Gear...
