Top off, plug in, set switch to 20hz. Oh my! Daughter came running in, "turn the sound down!". Mission accomplished. Hmmm, I do have one more plug to go to 16hz...

I've recently been thinking about trading my sub for a nice tube preamp or something/anything else.

I will probaly get rolled for this question but I have to ask? What exactly will one gain from upgrading to the new plus drivers? I have money in hand and I'm ready to pull the order but I want to get as much info as I can before I pull the trigger. Would I be better off putting the money towards something else or would it be money well spent for the upgrade? To me and hopefully someone else will explain a little better but I just don't see that much of a gain going from dual 12" subs to dual 12.3" subs. Could someone please elaborate a little more on this subject. Thanks.

From testing and messages with SVS, basically you gain about half (or more) of the performance gap between the Ultra and the Plus. On the NSD, it is equivelent (if not better) to the old + driver.

I went ahead and did it so that I'd have 2 DIY 12'2 or $100/each after upgrade

    Grim,

Here is the only spot I have seen a decent review of the two speakers:

    http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/791718/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1/nt/2

The reasoning to make this purchase is that SVS claims that the new speakers have a 1 to 2db increase, better musically, and also have a 3 year warranty on them. So basically, if nothing else, you are extending the warranty of your system by 3 years for $99 as well.

Can't argue with that. I am not a DIY person so I will definitely not be needing the old plus speaker.

My maggies could use a sub to play with so I'll be going the DIY route as well.

1 by itself won't do a whole lot. With IB, you need a lot of displacement since you do not gain volume/effiency from ports or a passive radiator. Figure volume (loudness) to be similar to a sealed sub of the same size. It would work, but it won't reult in the "OMG" upgrade most get going IB.

I was thinking that since quite a few would be for sale in the near future someone could get 2-4 ISD or Plus drivers and have a killer IB sub, no?

Gotcha, I was being a bit dumb. Thought you were implying that you'd use yours alone. 4 should acquit themselves quite nicely.

Anyone want to comment on any improvements they noticed when switching from a ISD to the NSD? I bought a 20-39 PCi at the very beginning of April, but I believe mine shipped with the 12" ISD woofer instead of the latest and greatest :(

I checked with Ron & Erik at SVS and Erik confirmed that my PCi was actually built with the NSD woofer. Mine was shipped about the first week of April 06 FYI.

Ok, here is the respone I received from Ron for verifying which driver you have.

    "Matt,

The better way to know is to pop off the grill and shine a light down the port.

If you see a black steel basket then it’s an NSD. If it’s a silver cast aluminum basket it’s the ISD.
