I have been checking out reviews of the SVS PB-10 ISD and from everything I've read...it would be ludicrous to spend $450 and change on anything else...

Is it really that good? I've been using a Velodyne CH-8 for about 3 years and have been less than impressed now that my room is larger...

I kept thinking I was gonna have to spend $600-$1000 to upgrade...

I think I want!!

Krabby, I've not heard one bad thing about SVS subs at their price. I have heard only one other SVS sub, and it was well worth the money. I am sure you would not regret it one bit. They aren't the most musical sub out there, but for HT they are excellent.

How large is your room? If its really big, you might want to consider at least a 12" sub or a dual driver sub.

Yep, that SVS and the Hsu STF-2 would be very solid choices in the $400-450 range.

I have one, and I can tell you you won't get a better sub for the money....Of course, you can do better if you pay a bit more, for a bigger SVS :)

I am in fact changing mine for one of the cylinders.

Honestly, that is not that big of a room, and if you're only looking to spend $450 and still get better than you have, you will have achieved your goal with the PB-10. I got a PB-10 just to tide me over for a year until I got the Depth from Martin Logan. For $450 it's easy to justify it not being the last sub you ever buy. I say go for it. However, if you listen to music a great deal, and have a real finicky ear, or really sit down to enjoy it from time to time, the PB 10 is a bit boomy, and you can certainly do better as far as musical subs. But for the money, you still can't beat the performance.
    Current System:

Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grand (Rosewood)-Mains (with Audioquest Mont Blanc cables)

    Martin Logan Depth-Sub
    B&K AVR 507
    Pimare CD21-CD Player

Yeah, that room is certainly not too large. I really think you'd like SVS' offerings. Heck, if you don't, they have a decent return policy and they seem to have a relatively high resell value / high demand on the used market.

You're in for a treat, the CHT-8 can't produce really low bass. After you get the PB10, have fun watching your movies all over again to enjoy what you were missing.

Yep PB10-ISD is nice with very low extension. Mine also measured very flat in my family room with eqwizard. Flight of the phx 2004 dvd during the plane descent and rolls is a good example of low bass that this sub can produce. Rent it just for that scene alone, the rest of the dvd is mediocre compared to the original 1965 movie.

I am currently running 1 svs pb10 with 2 polk RTi10's, CSi5 and 4 RTi6's and I love the sound from the sub. My room is 13'x25' with 8' ceilings. This sub really shines when watching movies. The low extension is amazing for a sub in this price range. While it may not be the most "musical" sub, it still does a really nice job. It took some room treatments and a little tweaking/positioning to really get the most out of the sub, but it was well worth it. Also, SVS has great customer support and a liberal trial period, so don't be afraid to email them with questions and check it out.

My problem is my room has 20 ft vauled ceilings and my viewing area is in a cubby hole to the room. I really only have room for the PB10 ISD, and that's going to be a tight fit. I hope it's output is enough to fill my viewing area.

I ended up ordering the 25-31 PCi...the wife liked the cylinder better...fine with me!!

I also noted on the order, in the comments section, that I would like it tuned to 22hz...

Is that how you guys asked?

I'd call and verify with Erik at the sales number. You're probably fine, but it never hurts to verify.

Why would you plug a ported subwoofer...that only has one port?

The 22hz tune is great, nice low extention overall with room gain.

Deeper bass extension Trey. Sealed vs. Ported - sort of...

    I dont think so...

If Im not mistaken, when you plug a port in a ported design, the f3 goes WAY up...

Ron S. at SVS sent me a port plug to experiment with on my new 20-39 PCi Trey & Ron. I don't think he'd do that if he thought it was a bad thing to do ;) FWIW I haven't felt the need to use it :)

Shouldve gone with the 20-39pci but the 22-31pci will do (this is your model # since you have the 22hz custom tune). I had the 22-31pci before and it served me well. However, if you had my hindsight, you wouldve gone with the 20-39pci.

If it's not too late, change the order. If it is, the 22-31 will still satisfy.

I know I sound a little harsh, but I guess I'm trying to get my opinion out before it's too late.

Enjoy your new sub, regardless of which it is. :)

Plugging the port wont hurt it....

But it will significantly raise the F3 --

I recently got a pb10 & I love it, but I did consider the 25-31, as well as the HSU VTF-2 MK 2. I'm curious to see if any of you know how the pb10 compares to both & what the differences are.

I briefly heard the VTF2.2 and later the PB10. Very similar for music, clean and tight, don't add more than is on the source. For HT the PB10 easily impressed more. I have a friend who had both, liked them both, but sold the Hsu.
